the reference to the motorcycle only worked when i actually started the engine, the head was sealed down with silicon, clearly grippy stuff as i had to rev the engine to break the seal, it did go with a crack but nothing was damaged. when you put your bolts back in do up finger tight then loosen...

failing that, a sharp crack with a 2lb ball pain hammer should do it. i know it hurts, just don't look when you hit it!! choose somewhere close to the gasket line where there is some substance to the casting, if you bruise the casting it can always be stoned off, no problem. andyr

sounds like air in the system to me, check the footwell on the drivers side for damp carpet. the water supply to the heater matrix is sealed with "o" rings and there buggers for leaking, they can leak water out or daw air in. worth a look anyway. andyr
