Front drive shafts, had the same problem with mine.

Place bumper against light pole, drive car into light pole. simple!

Tie rope to light pole, tie other end of rope to bumper. hop in car and drive off. easy:-)

The filter you are talking about is not fitted or mounted as such, but on the end of some hose. on mine it hangs about back left corner of engine bay as you look from the front, behind the oil cap. looks like old style fuel filter.

under oil filter is your oil cooler, I'd be checking this first. and change depression limiter valve filter as Willo says.

sounds like an earth fault, check the earth conection
