to echo discool's second point, I have just put Philips top rabge bulbs into my DII (pre face lift though) and the difference is really noticeable. Well worth the 25 odd quid and powerbulbs delivered them to west coast of ireland within two days.

This is a great thread and a joy to read amongst the doom and gloom of some of the other. Had a 300tdi at 145k miles with little bother and now have a td5 at only 47k. As I do about 25k a year, I will come back to this thread in 4 yrs time and hopefully be singing the praises too.

My '97 300 tdi had all the bits described but not running boards. Full leather but without grab handles. My '01 td5 es has all the bits but has grab handles on the leather front seats, no running boards and oddly no rear step. My folding mirrors don't electrically fold anymore though!

Not sure if they are linked, but same thing happened to me, but if was a hose at low level, these trucks are a handful to steer with no PAS, especially at little roundabouts

Fair dues to you both, I drive a 01 td5 auto too and with the mix of driving, I get about 450 miles (720 km) by the time the light comes on. That means I am lucky to get 35 - 26 mpg. I do not drive it hard either. Must get egr done soon, have service coming up.

Veggielandie, I hope I am not shot down but it is not a beemer 5 under your big bonnet there but a land rover td5 engine. the 2.5 in the range rover was a bmw sourced unit but the engine in the disco is a different unit altogether. Hope that someone with a little more detail will back this up
