does the engine have a oil cooler set up ? you said there was oil on no.8 plug is it wet or is it just oil that has burnt and built up ?

pin crank at tdc, pin pump with 9.5 drill bit set cam to marker then fit belt and tension/lock.

Hi, If i was you i would fit a new genuine pressure cap and see if that changes things ! your temp gauge should run at 12 o'clock at all times when your cooling system is working correctly, probably down to a slightly stuck open thermostat.

yes, seems like it is building pressure in the cooling system, was the head new ? remanufactured, or just skimmed flat before fitting to the engine ?

if its a diesel leak its the regulator ! need a new one ! About £85 + Fitting !

200 and 300 tdi do it from the factory !

I had a Land Rover 300 tdi thermostat in a fully re manufactured engine and the thermostat stuck closed and boiled the new engine after only 2 weeks running !!! All ways check a thermostat for operation, Even original ones !

hi, i hope you had the head skimmed when you did the head gasket as alloy heads should be skimmed when removed, if not this is false economy !!

Hi, i would agree with james here ! it sounds like injectors or pump timing to me. If there is a miss fire from compresion problems it would be there all the time not just at reving, blue smoke could indicate injector problem or miss timed injector pump.

Hi, if your synchro was going on 2nd gear it may be hard to select gear (stiff) or if the synchro is very worn it will crunch selecting gear ? if it isnt crunching and just stiff to select gear it may be poorly adjusted bias springs on the selector housing or may be a broken spring on selector...
