Started the Landy the other day after it had sat for about 2 hours, and there was one hell of a screeching sound from under the bonnet, definately sounded like it was related to the belts or something driven by them. Shut it off, opened the bonnet, re-started, no sound, sweet as a nut... hmmm...

Just check also that no vac lines are caught up under the top engine covers, I inadvertently done this after a service and had no vac to the turbo, slug mode.... obviously couldn't hear the turbo spool tho....

A very lean mixture will cause cylinders to burn hot, although I've never seen one heat the manifold like that, under power maybe...

Holy Christ... Let us know if it cures it if you don't mind please, don't mind spending the money if its gonna work. It looks on mine that with the wiring loom brushing it and the way the door closes on it, its lost its shape a little. I did consider earlier filling it with silicone to beef...

Can you hear the pump?? if not it could be the fuel pump relay.. Other guys on here know more but other things that affect starting are camshaft sensor, crank sensor, not sure if high pressure fuel sensor can stop it? Get it scanned to be sure..

Stripped out the carpet and trims today and got the hose on it.. seems the lower door seal leaks on both sides, it looks week near to where the loom to the door is.. Anyway, has anyone ever bought one of these seals from Rimmers etc, are they any good, or am I best with a genuine part??

Is it the TD4 engine, the rear fuel pump is the likely candidate if the management lights are both on and it wont start, there is a pressure sensor under the bonnet that monitors the fuel pressure, maybe this is at fault if the fuel pump is fine, you should be able to hear the pump when you turn...

Have heard reports of supermarket fuel plugging up a fuel filter with one fill up as well due to crap in their tanks.. any smoke from the exhaust??

Usually a bad MAF sensor will give poor performance, I had one die on my Audi and the bugger struggled to get up hills!! If its terribly slow, try disconnecting the MAF and driving it again, if it improves Bobs yer wotsit, usually the TD4 isn't too bad, ours will whip past things ok and pulls...

Ours is a little noisy too if set to demist the screen, just the sound of the air rushing through the vents, slight whistle on 2, and gets a little louder as fan speed is increased...

Haven't looked under the hood of a pre-facelift, but there is just room to get your hands in there as long as they're not big maulers, I think you just need to be able to get round it well, through the wheelarch and round the back of the engine, do-able but a pain in the arse, mine went at...

Sounds very much like the thermostat is stuck open, its on the side of the engine on the water pump, if you look down by the belts you'll see it, with the hose coming off, easy to fit!? Not impossible but not that friendly, remember if the engine was still in the BMW it would be on the front...

Can second that, ours is mustard in the snow, was glad of it when our little girl decided to arrive after a truck load of snow on top of ice.. even when gunned away it just grips, give it even more out of a junction and it will drift a treat :D

Had the air-con regassed and checked yesterday, it was getting a little noisy and gave a small hiss for a couple of seconds then went quiet, still worked fine though, when it was checked it was under half full, never been touched in 8 years, checked no leaks, regassed, quiet as a mouse and all...

If I use the flick wipe by pushing the stalk down, for a start the wipers will stop as soon as I let the stalk go, if I wiggle the stalk it seems to cure it and they will park.. always been ok on intermittent though.. prob good place to start is the switch

Maybe worth pulling the pickup pipe out of the tank and having a look, there is usually a gauze filter on the end, I presume the landy would be no different, and these can get covered in something that can only be described as looking like snot.. I've known this in the past to be the cause of...
