td4 bogs down and stalls on tough lanes synergy

Is the EGR removed, this caused ours to bog when acceleration was required, not off road, but pause at a junction, pull away and it would bog down. It never stalled unless pullling something and under load mind you, just would bog for a couple of secs while the crap exhaust gases cleared, then...

    dead after changing wiper motor

Its surprising how quickly courtesy lights will drain a battery enough to barely start, not sure what age your Landy is.. the later ones will switch them off after about 10mins of the door being open. Check the charging voltage though as said, with the engine running it should really be high 13s...

    Struggling with alternator belt refitting

Should go on reasonably easily, are you sure its going round the pulleys correctly, easy to get it a little muddled up....done mine a year ago so cant remember exactly, but no real issues, practice on a bloody merc a class, then you'll breeze it!!

    MOT Pass

Mine is holy and not that good, but perfectly repairable, how much of an arse is it to remove ??

Towing with a 2WD freelander that used to be 4x4

You really don't need to worry about towing that kind of weight, the FL will nicely cope with 2 tons, mine pulled our Fergie back on a stout 4 wheel trailer with no worries, so prob a little over 2 tons... Get it fixed and back to 4wd, it will pull a loaded horse trailer across all sorts of...

    MOT Pass

Got mine MOTd last week with a reading of 0.3, Synergy about midway for torque and power, used to read 0.1 years ago when it had good runs every day.... The only thing on mine was headlamp alignment, adjusted.. fine. Corrosion on one of the plates that make up the fuel tank cradle, but no cause...

    Welded rear diff?

Well it seems they get more traction than some other Landys ....:fencing: But no, you most certainly wouldn't want to weld up the rear diff, ours will only use TC in mud pulling a load, never in snow unless you give it a footfull in 1st..

Freelander TD4 glow plugs not operating

Definatly worth checking, you'll probably find the glow plugs will operate for a while after the engine has stared as well. This aids emmisions and nicer running from cold..

    Snow!

And when did my dam VC bearings decide to pack up!!!!! The Landy will drift a treat pulling out of junctions:D With a prop of coarse, think I might just go kick the crap out of dem dam bearings:violent: Off to Island 4x4 tonight...

    TD4 2005 grating noise

Just had my prop off to replace goosed VC bearings, they were transmitting noise to near the nearside and offside front wheels ( any noise under the center console?? ) sounded bloody awful.. once up to 40 you couldn't hear them..

    Freelander starting

Do that and try it... crank it in bursts so you don't burn the starter, if it starts and dies, start it again and let it come to life on its own. Giving it an oil change will at least help to get some oil over the top end before you turn it over... it might take some persuading, make sure the...

    Getting aggravated now....

The VCU was a recon unit from Bell Engineering, UJs all seem fine, free and in good nick, bushes on the diff also in good nick. The original OE ones were in good nick at 70K and only changed as it was all in bits, the second set bought from the dealer didn't look like GKNs to be perfectly honest...

    Getting aggravated now....

I'll give them a look, none of the ones I've bought have had FAG bearings in them, apart from the Britpart ones cos I fitted them to shut them up! Only to find the crap rubber made the car shake at 60.. I think now you say it Singvogel has spoke of Island 4x4 before....? Cheers

    Getting aggravated now....

Could anyone please recommend a reputable place to get a pair of Genuine GKN VCU bearings please. When I changed the VC a while back, I bought a pair of Britpart items, big mistake! Bit the bullet and bought a pair from the local stealer, sypmtoms all cured but they lasted a year and the rubber...

    small whine at about 50mph..

Just to add to this thread, I removed the prop today to eliminate some bearing noise I had ( but thats a different story), and the said whine near enough completely disappeared... As it only whines in 4wd it must be emminating from the IRD, something inside that whines when under load....

    small whine at about 50mph..

No worries, I'm now 40 and whine occasionally, maybe it'll get worse I dont know... Has anyone heard of a revised gear linkage, possibly fitted to later FL1s, or was it a dream where the Landy rolled like a Rolls....
