Don't know if 04 FL gearknob is any different to my 52 FL but the knob on mine just unscrewed. If the gaitor is the same, it is held in by 4 clips on the inner edge of the flat part of the trim holding the bottom of the gaitor. Easy to get off fiddly to get back on. Cheers Rog

Just replaced mine with a Kenwood MP3 CD head unit. Great bit of kit even with the standard speakers. Also, you can change the illumination to green to match a Freelander dash. Cost me £49.99 off eBay including a free IR remote. Depends on the age of your FL as to getting the head unit...
