If all other hoses are hot and gauge is working then my first steps would be either air lock (has any work been done lately or any leaks?), if all else is hot I would think the pump is moving the water.
Next step for me would be headgasket. Are the hoses getting pressurised quickly?
None of the hoses will get hot, engine will overheat but the temp gauge will not necessarily move.(It depends where the sensor is). There will be no way for the water to move around the system. If there is doubt I wouldn`t use the car until a new one is fitted
Had something like this on mine.
Was there any vibration through the footbrake before hand?
I sorted mine by sanding the edges off the new shoes and ruffing up the surface of the shoe. failed the mot then after I did this it flew through
Not sure about improving a 19j but easy to improve the landrover by getting that engine as far away from it as poss.
The hole is a bit of well thought/forward thinking by landrover
RE 200tdi conversion: The general way to go is buy a rotten discovery, remove everything engine wise and transplant in to 90. There are loads and loads of threads on here.
RE pipe from filler cap: I had a longer hose the right size in the garage so used that from the filler cap to a drain...
It sounds like the turbo is ok. The oil in the turbo is more than likely coming from the breather that comes from the oil filler cap (which you said is coming off. Breathing heavy) to the air filter pipe. Did the air filter box have oil the bottom? ( bet ya it did).
All this is very common with...
Looking at getting some for the 90. Have seen some on fleabay and the seller says that all side steps are the same across the defender range ( 90, 110, 130, etc).
Now surely the 90 ones will be shorter, wouldn`t they?
