    tried 2 new ****part fuel tank senders in my defender 90 both did not work bought a new genuine land rover unit works fine,it was twice the price of the ****part ones ,it doesnt give you much faith in their parts :(

    have done mine several times with a steam cleaner { hot water but pressure turned down low } and had no problems the hot water dissolves the ****e and rinses it off also because the hot water warms everything up it will dry really quick :)

    make sure yout pollen filters are changed often as when they get mucky its makes the fans work harder to pull air through them therefore pulling more current heating up the wireing,relays,fusebox etc:)

    also make sure your pollen filters are renewed , when they get clogged up this makes it alot harder for the fans to pull air through them which in turn require more current which heats up the wiring ,relay and fusebox i have seen this problem on a number of p38s :):)

    both my p38s are decated and run perfect on lpg and petrol, if you by a decat pipe they will have the holes in to screw the sensors back in which is a must after decating i noticed more mpg more power and better sound ,allthough some of the sound improvement is down to the janspeed stainless...

    i had a similar problem on my 98 autobiog 4.6 it turned out to be the head unit internal power supply, it started of like yours but got worse over a few months , so i took it out and had the power supply replaced by a local car stereo outlet , been fine ever since :)
