Oil on the rear rims, what did I break

Yep, the breather is clear. I ordered a new hub seals.

Oil on the rear rims, what did I break

I snugged up the drum breaks in order to pass the yearly motor vehicle test. Forgot to loosen them up afterwards and now I have oil on both the rear rims. I think the rim and hub may have got super hot and damaged the seal. The most probable cause for the oil everywhere is the seal on the hub...

trouble with steady engine running-- any one used a Zenith copy

I bought a Zenith copy a while back (maybe 8 years ago), I had the Zenith warp problem. I have lapped the halves a few times now and no more black smoke, rough idling. The trouble I have is hot start on a hot day, seems like I all the petrol boils out of carb, must crank engine a bit to start...

    Seat ideas!

I like to hit the brakes hard sometimes and make all the seats fold down. Seat belts just get in the way. (I'm smiling)

    voltage stabilzer,

Solved, It was the stabilizer and sender. The arm on the sender was fairly stiff to swing and I think the ethanol I put in a while back soaked into the plastic float, because I can hear swishing, so I changed it to a spare one I had with a tin float. Found a spare stabilizer and now it shows 10V...

    voltage stabilzer,

I am trying to figure out my fuel gauge. Took a reading with digital and analog meter at the fuel tank unit, readings jumps from around 5V to 10V almost twice a second. Could I have a wire crossed, or according to circuit diagram the wire from tank unit goes to fuel gauge and from fuel gauge is...

    Interesting wiring modifications

Nothing beats buying a new loom only to have a mouse get inside the frame, or crawl through a cracked handbrake gaiter and get behind the dash. Just bought new gaiters for the levers 3 years ago, and checking last week they all have cracks. Got some leather ones coming now. I wish these spare...

    Hesitation when accelerating

ok I will try the above: distributer- lube the shaft and springs, check for the piece of felt and oil it. If that doesn't work I will find out where the idle jet is in the Zenith, make sure its the right jet, and clean. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Hesitation when accelerating

So you guys are saying that you can run out out to your Landy right now, cold start it, and haul ass out of the driveway without the engine popping and quiting? :-) lol Checked the vacuum hose for leaks, checked the distributer vacuum diaphragm for leaks- all good. I have had the Zenith carb...

    Hesitation when accelerating

Is it normal for the 2.25L 7:1 petrol to hesitate after a cold start, no load? I would like not waiting for 5-10 minutes for the engine to warm up after driving, if I don't she will backfire under the slightest acceleration. I just adjusted tappets to .010", replaced all the spark plugs (NGK...

    series 3 wheels and tyres

I have heard of deestone. Quick search I found one supplier for you. 7.50x16, I heard they are slippery when wet. The tread is almost the same as the tires I just got. One thing if you have the spare mounted on the rear of a wagon it might not clear the hitch. :-) They must be 32-33" in dia.

Series 3 How to fill the arches? - pics of your land please

I wonder if there are any originals in the whole lot? What I see on mine is metric bolts cross threaded then snapped where a bsf would go. Rounded out bolt heads from using the wrong spanner. Missing grommets, and blanking plugs, gaters allowing for rats to enter and eat wires. All in my area...

    series 3 fitting a radio

Was on a website today that had amplified speakers inside antique suitcases. Just google "antique speaker suitcase" and you'll see. Might be super sweet if you made your own with 12v dc, and bought the plug for the inspection socket on fleabay to power it.

I think the wear is nominal, if I remember I still have some that say lucas or girling on it. Might still not be the originals. Anyway my thoughts are that the buffer piece is there for corrosion where the aluminum meets the steel shoe. I had trouble with the iron ones seizing up after the truck...

Series 3 How to fill the arches? - pics of your land please

Got my rear tyres on today before it rained. They are new. You can see I went with shinny unpainted birmabright inside the wheel wells. What a job cleaning the loads and loads of dirt plus flaky underbody/rubberized paint gunk off. 7.50-16 Off-road/military knobbies. Says tubeless, I did'nt pay...

Series 3 stuck in 4wheel drive

Had trouble with mine slipping into neutral a while back. That was the red 2wd/4wd lever. It turns out one of the bolts on the three selector shafts fell out. Found it when draining the oil from the gearbox. Their is a inspection cover you can take off to see. You can see the clamps on the...

Series 3 A creative day in 1977 causes confusion 39 years later

A little off topic, but yesterday I was putting the drums back on mine. They all went back on except for the right front (11" LWB). On that one I changed out the dual rusty steel slave cyl with some aluminum ones I found. Drum would not go back on, I had to shave a bunch off each end of the...

    109 front 11" brakes conspiracy

With all the trouble bleeding the brakes, I have been going by the book putting everything back the factory way. Here is something strange, if you google around for pictures of the front brakes, 109, leading, trailing shoe, etc you will find a ton of pictures with the back plate so the dual...
