Series 2 Need 2.25l petrol suggestions for current trouble

Got the new valves in, some duck egg engine paint on the springs I noticed. Wonder if that is from factory or some previous paint job over spray. Last picture is my set up for trying to get that goddam dog of the pully. I did have it in gear but the clutch must be going bad. I wanted something...

Series 2 Need 2.25l petrol suggestions for current trouble

update: Finally got the valve seat cutter I ordered 3 weeks ago. A little disappointed it only came with the exhaust cutter. The tool works very nice though, but the book said exhaust seats are 45 degrees, the tool driver its printed as 46 degrees. Its a Newway valve seat cutter kit - Land Rover...

Couple pictures of where I'm at now. Not sure if that is normal wear. Also found every 1 inch long bolt on the water pump cross threaded. Waiting for parts again with correct unf type thread. Also waiting for deep socket large enough for the flywheel nut.

Are the seat belts required? I thought there should be a "grandfather" clause in the rules.

Series 2 Need 2.25l petrol suggestions for current trouble

update, Got held up today when looking at the three cooling water cast pieces. Lots of scale/corrosion so I tried to lap the gasket faces by hand with sand paper until they where mostly flat. I know now why the three long bolts where half the dia. they originally where. Ended up using a...

Ckl Your right, the roller assembly was flaking off chips. At least 1-2mm difference between new and old. The rollers are mostly in great shape. The new sliders don't say "front" on them, so I am guessing they go either way. Ah its fine, I thought they may have had hardened seats already. I...

    S3 Radiator Hose Dimensions

I have mine off at the moment so I looked, Not sure if my radiator is stock or not but the connection at top and bottom of radiator is 35mm, The part on the engine that houses the thermostat is also 35mm, the bypass hose connection below the thermostat looks like 34mm. Those are the 4 I measured...

Series 2 Need 2.25l petrol suggestions for current trouble

Update, Cleaned up the head little by little, to me it looks like I have hardened seats pressed in already. Is that assessment correct? Brother-in-law says my seats are fine, just need to be recut on the bad one (exhaust #1). He thinks some debris, or object caused the malformation on the...

Does honing mean I need to order a oversized pistons and rings to match? If I don't I can maybe do it myself by dropping the oil pan, remove connecting rod bolts and push pistons out? Put honing device on drill and make some cross scratches in wall? Thanks, I guess I will not use synthetic, I...

Series 2 Need 2.25l petrol suggestions for current trouble

Okay, thanks for that info. I'm leaning on having the local machine shop do them if those are not hardened seats already pushed in the pictures. I did pull the head off today. I was right on with my diagnosis which I am happy, Intake [Edit]: Exhaust valve #1. The reason the valve is oval shaped...

Series 2 Need 2.25l petrol suggestions for current trouble

I'm on the fence still, not even sure if I have inserts already in there from a few years ago or if they just recut the seats a bit more. I was thinking of purchasing a boring head to use on a drill press. Then putting head in oven to 150c and take out hardend seats from fridge and either press...

Series 2 Need 2.25l petrol suggestions for current trouble

I ordered parts from Turner engineering in the UK. Hardened valve seats is one of the items. Anybody fit these themselves? I am not sure if I trust the machine shop in my neck of the woods. All I need is a boring head on a pillar drill press right? I don't have either but have access to a drill...

Series 2 Need 2.25l petrol suggestions for current trouble

yes the machine shop did all that, I just meant I think they took some stock and put it on a lathe to size it, press it in and then cut the angle I assume, anywayz I'll plan on buying a hardend set of seats on fleabay along with valve guides in the future. I replaced the tappet adjusting screws...

Series 2 Need 2.25l petrol suggestions for current trouble

I suspect it is fouled with carbon build up. Now that I think about it I just assumed it was on compression stroke, I looked at the notch on the pully, so I guess I need to pressure check again as it might have been finishing with exhaust. doh lol So I can just buy some hardened seats and have...

I have been having soot in the carb, with dieseling when shutting down. Carb is Zenith. Took it apart, lapped it again, changed the pin for the float (new) and readjusted the float for a nylon (31mm?) , cleaned the soot out. Adjusted the tappets. Did a compression test with cold engine with...

    manifold stud hole stripped

I have had a stud on my 2.25l petrol cylinder head stripped out. Its not the stud but the hole in the edit: cylinder head (not manifold) that is stripped. If i remember the (edit) cylinder head is somewhat chipped out at that stud hole, well it has a exhaust leak at that spot, I think it has...

    Series 2 Zenith woes

Welcome to the Zenith Warp zone. I have had exactly the same problem. I eneded up "lapping" the two halves several times to get my 2.25 to run without belching black smoke. In fact today I am back on landy zone becuase I need a new carb and want to buy a new zenith remake not from that lot. So...

    fuel filler neck tube length

My Series 2 has another pipe that extends out if your using a jerrycan or something to fill up. Its connected to a chain inside the filler pipe. I think that is the original style for series 2. Also it has a screen inside and the book says there should be a felt pad there as well.

Series 2 new noise after hitting a jump

I can't see any physical damage besides the chipped pully on the crank. I have to drive it in a couple days so maybe the noise will manifest itself. Bump stops are in good condition, diff is fine. I think I will put on my list to change the pulley to a single and remove the double row that is...

Series 2 new noise after hitting a jump

I was driving with a lead foot in the dark, and hit a jump when the gravel turned to pavement. The front axle rammed into the pulley and took a piece of steel off the pulley. Luckily i didn't break the block or break the crankshaft. I have this new noise that I can not find for the life of me...
