Red light on the dash was glowing tonight... So put a tester on the battery, 16 volts going in on tickover :( What are the likely causes of this? Series 3, daihatsu 2.8TD inc Daihatsu Alt and voltage reg...

OD arrived today. Consists of The OD unit A bearing type thing that slide into the OD 2 types of lock washers 1 lever with black knob on and one link rod from above lever to OD uint I know the bracket is missing as is the clevis pin. Is there anything else thats missing??

I have aquired an overdrive :D Anybody have a pic of ALL the componants that should be with it. I know its missing a bracket that the lever fixes too, any body have a piccy of that bracket and sizes etc so I can make one up. Also any on line fitting instructions etc....

Thats what I was thinking, Ford Motor Co etc... But the frame on the front of the rad fits the series front end, spot on. So what vehicle could the rad have come from?? Will get some araldite tomoz and try that, cheers Slob.

Well the engine is in, exhaust fitted, just got a fan from ebay, so today wa the test drive day... Plenty of power from the Daihatsu lump, great, so went for a drive, heard a 'ching' noise...... Fan had somehow clipped the lip at the base of the rad, and a blade snapped off, and you guessed...

I was wondering the same about a Daihatsu 2.8 TD lump........

There is a threaded rod by the master cylinder, it sound as though that needs adjustment, not sure which way. It sounds like its not letting the fluid back into cylinder as its acting like a non return valve...

Yes mate, tried earthing to engine/battery, tried both terminals and vice versa. Gauge was working fine before swap so no reason to suspect the gauge... The threads are totally different on the Daihatsu to the Series, so cant use series sender:(

Wire in the temp sender on a Daihatu lump. Series just has one wire that goes to the gauge, seems the Daihatsu needs two wires, have tried one to gauge plus one to earth, nothing... Any ideas???:D

No mine is not the intercooled TD, I do have the large single silencer from the Daihatsu, so will most prob fit that in somewhere. Nows the time to learn welding properly methinks.....:rolleyes:

Will it be OK to run a straight through exhaust with a 2.8 TD, and a 'Pancake' or KN type air filter.. Or could it do damage to the turbo etc?? :rolleyes: If OK, could it be legal for an MOT??

Ahem... When I put my 2.5 NA into the series, I just used a length of welding rod between Series linkage and 2.5 pump, was only a temporary bodge, but it lasted a year....

Lee, just running normal S3 box and axles, dont do any distance so should suffice, do keep looking for an overdrive though... BUT if I spend much more on this beast Im divorced.... Anyone know a good lawyer??

Cheers Lee Not sure wheter to route the exhaust inside the chassis (Very close to engine and oil pressure sender) or outside the chassis, which is a severe 90 degree bend x2. Cant fathom the fuel out, I will wire a pump in as I dont think it will harm the Daihatsu pump, only reason I can...

Put the Daihatsu lump in over the weekend, fitting kit from Precision Engineering was spot on. Engine fitted a treat, after having to remove half the nearside footwell, to accomodate the Turbo etc :eek: This also means the heatermatrix box had to be removed, might poss get it back in, but...

Panic over, conversion plate came from precision engineering, came with a complete set of everything................ phew

Went to take out the engine to bellhousing bolts last night in prep to removing the engine, took only a few seconds as only 2 were left!!! So does anyone have a set they can sell/donate. :D Or can you tell me what size/thread I need to hunt for at Halfrauds etc.. TIA Coddy

Started taking the old girl to pieces, ready to lift the old 2.5 NA and fit the 2.8 TD Daihatsu... Will post piccies of the swap once the old lump is out and I have the adapter plate kit, then will try to do a diary of fitting the 2.8 and all the probs I may encounter....
