Thought id give you guys an update. He has pulled the halfshaft out on the passengers side. All come out fine and looked fine. He got to the drivers side and the joint on the halfshaft fell out in his hand and the long part of the shaft is stuck in the axel. Looks like it has snapped...

Last night I fitted my new cambelt. re-fitted my polished head after it has had new valves, rods, brasses, glowplugs. Got so far and realised there are some washers missing from my rocker arm. Will try and buy them today and carry on with the rebuild.

I was there 2 weeks ago. In my opinion you could do it in a standard without a snorkel as long as its not flooded (which it probly is at the moment!)

Sorry bill your right!! I was told to use a 9mm drill in the defender guide. But I did find that the 9.5mm was a tighter fit, but there is still some movement in it! I can only guess that i line it up as central as possible and slap the belt on. But I dont feel 100% confident!
