Trailing arm bushes? Does it feel like it does it from the rear end? I'd start by checking radius/trailing arm axle and chassis bushes.

Theres always one! Shouldn't be working too hard in a boat as its always in a fixed position with an inboard engine and no axles going up and down changing UJ angles.

Had a similiar problem with a whine getting louder as I accelerate and at speed. Turned out to be the wife.....:D

It would help, but he can just unbolt the prop and take it with him to buy the UJ's, thus eliminating any guesswork.

Seconded! :) Change UJ's, prop will be like new.

Easy to replace, then bleed it. I imagine the dark colour of the clutch fluid is because of the seals in the slave cylinder breaking down. Can happen if the wrong fluid is used.
