P38 4.6 HSE with LPG black smoke and miss fire

I'm no expert on this but it might be possible for your local garage to test the emissions and check if your lambda sensors are working, in that I believe that this is what is known as a closed circuit system whereby the ecu throws in the juice and this fuel trim is regulated but what the...

    2004 4.4 V8 petrol 115k - Is my engine dead?

I've read your posts and hopefully this will end up an easy fix for you. As the viscous fan spins faster it 'may' be trying to centre itself hence the noise subsiding a little. I know the chain guides can go west, but if you can remove the load the tensioned belt is placing in the ancillaries -...

    2004 4.4 V8 petrol 115k - Is my engine dead?

Hi, Have you checked all your ancillaries? Pas, alternator, water pump and belt idlers? I'd pop the belt off and give them a spin by hand or a wiggle to see if they're worn. If memory serves you may have to drop the undertray but just follow belt replacement in Rave and see. Our P38 gave me a...

Now this is a curiouis one...Coolant over pressure and overheat....

Sounds like you have some things to try out. If you take the vapouriser out of line maybe it would be worth blanking off the pipes that way you won't get a flow circuit through the free line which would have less resistance than the line through the heater. In effect returning your rangie to pre...

Now this is a curiouis one...Coolant over pressure and overheat....

Just off the top of my head are you sure the water pump is ok, and I'm not sure what vaporiser you have but it might be worth giving the guys at Tinley Tech a ring or email, I've found the very helpful. I can't see the gas / water thing but they'd be able to give you an answer. Lastly, how is...

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

Glad you got the job done, I hope the car benefits from it. If I get some time over the next week I'll check my levels, as I've been through the paperwork that came with the car and it's oil and filter change was proper stuff. Still, I agree that the chance of clearing the fluid will require...

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

I've got to say I've looked at a number of Bembles posts and as he rebuilds them if he advises not to use the stuff, I'm with him. That transmission seems expensive to play with, I've noticed that 2nd hand they keep their money although I'd think you'll be knocking on the door of a rebuilt unit...

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

Charlie, ref using Dextron for a cheap flush - this thread except from Bemble :( See Navigator 16078 thread L322 Gearbox). "Make sure that you use Esso LT71141 fluid. It costs £29/litre from a Jaguar dealer, about £17/litre from a Land Rover dealer, but I buy it in 20 litre containers for the...

Thanks Charlie, know anywhere to get a good price on the LT71141?

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

Hi Charlie, thats an interesting thought, after all they flush torque converters. I'll have a think about it and see. I'll check the oil level first and replace it if necessary and see if that helps (The cars only done 10000 since the filter was put in). I've been reading that this oil is not...

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

Thanks All Charlie sounds like a plan, I might just drain to flush once and then change the whole lot including the filter and transmission cooler after reading Saints thread. At least that way I can work out if the level is wrong before getting into some serious parts money. Thanks again.

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

Hi All, has anyone experienced a hesitant change down - say on the run up to a roundabout, when slowing, if you go and don't stop, the gearbox hesitates before selecting 1st? I had a S type Jag with this problem, but this had the later 6HP 6 speed box. The box had a fluid/ filter change before I...

VERY odd electrical fault '97 P38 4.6 HSE

Did you have a coolant leak under the header tank, if so it may be worth looking at the large electrical connector that sits underneath the header (big round plug)? I've had to check mine for corrosion before now and this coupled with what's been said about the fuse board is definitely a start...

    Terrible LPG mpg

Not sure about the Prinz system but I'm getting around 3 miles to the litre on our L322 ( 3x 82 = 246.... ish), the P38 is better. When I put a Bigas system on the P38 there were some basic initial settings but the ECU learns about fuelling (from the Engine ECU I belive?) but either way it works...

    Range Rover Tyres

I know you're looking at specific tyres but I've had no problems with Hankook on both p38 and L322, don't off road though, so can't comment on that side of things. Nice and quiet though.

    Changing coil packs

Hi I've never attempted this without taking the upper manifold off, but I use a bit of blu tac in the socket when removing and replacing the bolts will hopefully stop you from dropping them down the back of the engine. Enjoy.
