I also went on their (Atlantic British) website and downloaded a very good Land Rover service schedule guide that was mentioned in the video for novices like myself. Have a look - www.roverparts.com It's a shame they're in America and not here!

I know! It's so thorough. Gonna follow it very carefully. Thank goodness for YouTube! And the people that made the video - it's exactly what I need!

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

I do admire the Americans positive attitude and hands-on approach to repairing things. I dread going to local garages. Here it seems anything more difficult than changing brake pads, you seem to get the sharp intake of breath followed by the head shaking and then the 'it might cost you a bit for...

Here you go David - It's a fantastic video. The guy makes it sound like its a walk in the park!

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Parts ordered. Thermostat in Housing, Thermostat O-Ring, Elbow Pipe and Straight Pipe. £55 delivered. Hopefully have them early next week. I'm definitely going to have to carefully number / name (where I can identify them!) and photograph all the connections. Still can't believe how many there...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

When replacing the thermostat, I've read that the plastic pipe in which it is connected to is very brittle and will probably break when removing the thermo. If I could't get hold of the complete hose service kit, what would be the minimum parts you'd recommend for this? Just the thermo and...

That RAVE manual is STILL downloading! wow!

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

I'll call Foundry 4 x 4 again tomorrow as I didn't hear back from them today on the parts. I know I could just buy the thermo housing but if the whole top end of the car has to be removed for access it makes sense to replace all the associated hoses just so that's one whole job complete...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Thats an idea. I'll have to look into it. As the engine is knocking (did you hear it on my video?) if I was to go to such lengths, should I just swap the engine? I'm afraid that if I replace the thermo and pipes, it's only a matter of time before the engine goes. Then I have to start all over...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Awesome pics Nodge. Your work is very well documented! I just finished watching the 45 minute video from British Atlantic on replacing the thermostat and coolant hoses. My head is blown! I didn't realise there would be SO MANY connections. When I watched Jasco's video on replacing the...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Thanks Nodge. You make it sound really easy when you say it like that! I'll look forward to seeing your thermo change pics. David, what is that 'Rave' thing you mentioned? I'm waiting for a call back from the parts supplier. I also called two local garages - one quoted £170 plus vat and that...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

My main concern is because I'm a novice, if it were just a case of removal and re-fit then that is fine but if anything related is broken or cracked, etc and I don't see it because I don't know what I'm looking for, once it's re-built I could run into problems. Wondering if I should just get a...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

The guy on the video (from British Atlantic) says the coolant hose and thermo service is a 3-4 hour job. Will prob take me 20 hours by the time I stop / start watching the instructions! haha.

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Yeah you're right. If I make a complete pigs ear out of it at least I'll have a replacement on the way. My existing inlet manifold needs replacing too. It's making (and has made it since I've had the car) that annoying ticking noise which gets faster and louder the more you rev the engine. So...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

And don't worry, I've been keeping a hawk eye on the coolant level. Even before this happened I was checking it before and after every short trip. I ran the engine for around 10 mins whilst making the video and have topped it up again before I left it.

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Cool! Thanks David. I just came across this video... Looks very thorough! Watching it now. The guy says every 105K miles the vehicle will need a coolant hose and thermostat service.. Mine just hit 111K miles! Wondering should I do the job and see how long it lasts before the head gasket finally...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

Hi Everyone, After two days of rain I've managed to get out to have a look at the Freelander today. I removed the cover and looked in through the gap like some of you said. There water sitting in the 'V' already so I turned the engine over to see where it's coming from. Seems to be from a black...

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

If the thermo housing is cracked and needs replacing, is it a big job? Can it be accessed from above and could a novice like me do it or would I need a professional?
