    Exhaust/inlet manifold studs

Thanks mate, unfortunately I'm in Norfolk, but I'll maybe give them a ring and see if they'd post some. Cheers.

    Exhaust/inlet manifold studs

Hi everyone, just ordered a new exhaust manifold from Paddock and it doesn't come with the long studs that fix the exhaust manifold to the inlet manifold (they don't sell them separately either as far as I can tell). The old ones are pretty knackered so re-using them is out of the question. Does...

Stripped thread on exhaust manifold stud...

Thanks for the input everyone. Turns out I've had a go at the dreaded rusty manifold nuts and so far it seems they're actually gonna come off fairly easily. (Some of them weren't even tightened...) So I'm thinking new manifold like Gingerpuss said (if I can't get the studs out). Seems too easy...

Stripped thread on exhaust manifold stud...

I'm replacing the exhaust on my series 3, and just stripped one of the manifold studs. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how best to get studs out? (preferrably without taking out the manifold) I've been doing some research but most of what I've seen will only work on studs with a good...

    Distributor/ spark plug issues

Thanks for the help boys, got it running again a lot more easily than I thought I would. I ended up just cranking it with the handle until the rotor arm was back on no1, reattaching the leads, and bob's your uncle. No exhaust pipe on at the moment so I haven't let it run properly yet but it...

    Distributor/ spark plug issues

Thanks guys. I'll go out and have a good look when it stops raining (if it ever does). I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers.

    Distributor/ spark plug issues

Thanks mate, that sounds like useful info. Any chance you could give me a little more detail on how to check this?

    Distributor/ spark plug issues

Hi everybody, just replaced the spark plugs in my 4cyl petrol series III, and now it won't start. I'm going to check that all the cables are sparking ok but it was starting relatively well a week or so ago so I doubt that's it. One thing I want to know is whether it's normal for the...

    More series III brake issues...

Yeah I've already had to sand the shoe linings down loads to fit the drums over the top. Pretty depressing grinding years of life off a new set of brakes... The adjusters are fully backed off by the way. Anyway, cheers guys, hopefully it'll turn out fine.

    More series III brake issues...

Here's a pic of what I'm on about. It's pretty crap quality but you get the idea. As you can see the rear shoe (on the right) is not pushing the piston in at all. I've just thought maybe I'm being a bit of an idiot though, and that when I've properly bled the brakes etc there'll be a vacuum...

    More series III brake issues...

Is it normal for the trailing shoe on SWB series 3 brakes not to be under as much tension from the return spring as the leading shoe? I assume it is sort of normal because the trailing shoe is only held by one spring, but I've just put on new cylinders and the trailing shoe doesn't even have...

    New brake drums won't fit...

Cheers mad hat man. Yeah fair point, don't want to end up with shoes as thin as the old ones.

    New brake drums won't fit...

I might be able to really force them on but then I guess the shoes will just be rubbing on the inside anyway.

    New brake drums won't fit...

All the new parts are exactly the same as the old ones, just newer. Looks like it's gonna be a case of shaving the linings down a bit like Benny says. They don't use asbestos to make brake shoes any more do they? Please tell me they don't...

    New brake drums won't fit...

I've just bought new rear shoes and drums for my series III 88", fitted the shoes fine, and now the new drums won't go on. From what I can find on the internet this is a relatively common problem, but the answers I've seen people giving are things that I've already ruled out. It's definitely...

Brake fluid for a series III

Ok, thanks for the help everyone. It's starting to look as if brake fluid's the least of my problems though. Just bought everything to replace the rear brakes, and the new drums won't fit over the new shoes (even with no pressure in the cylinders). I'm going to put a new thread about it on the...

Brake fluid for a series III

It's quite a late model by the way. 1983 I think.

Brake fluid for a series III

Does anyone have any idea what type of brake fluid would be in my series III lightweight? (Assuming the guy we bought it off used the same fluid as would have originally been used) I heard it can be a bad idea to mix them up so thought I'd best check. Cheers.

    Series III brake shoe/lining

Brilliant, that sounds more like it. Cheers guys.

    Series III brake shoe/lining

Ok cheers, sounds like good advice. The engine's just the original 4 cylinder. I've got a socket set with one that claims to be spark plug size, but it's way too small as far as I can tell.
