Thanks for the input everyone. Turns out I've had a go at the dreaded rusty manifold nuts and so far it seems they're actually gonna come off fairly easily. (Some of them weren't even tightened...) So I'm thinking new manifold like Gingerpuss said (if I can't get the studs out). Seems too easy...

Yeah I've already had to sand the shoe linings down loads to fit the drums over the top. Pretty depressing grinding years of life off a new set of brakes... The adjusters are fully backed off by the way. Anyway, cheers guys, hopefully it'll turn out fine.

Is it normal for the trailing shoe on SWB series 3 brakes not to be under as much tension from the return spring as the leading shoe? I assume it is sort of normal because the trailing shoe is only held by one spring, but I've just put on new cylinders and the trailing shoe doesn't even have...

Does anyone have any idea what type of brake fluid would be in my series III lightweight? (Assuming the guy we bought it off used the same fluid as would have originally been used) I heard it can be a bad idea to mix them up so thought I'd best check. Cheers.
