Rear wheels spinning free of drive shaft?

Will do, thanks. (Like I say, diffs etc are a mystery to me)

Rear wheels spinning free of drive shaft?

Hi everyone, not sure if I'm being really dumb here but gears and diffs and stuff are still a bit of a mystery to me. Basically, I've got the rear wheels of my Series 3 jacked up, and they are able to spin freely with the handbrake on. The handbrake works fine, stopping the drive shaft turning...

    One front wheel slanting inwards...

Hi all, back again. Finally got round to jacking up the problem wheel and there doesn't seem to be any play at all. Everything seems fairly secure.

    One front wheel slanting inwards...

Not sure about the tracking, that's a bit of a grey area for me. Still haven't had a chance to jack it up and check for play in the wheel etc. I'll post again when I've had a look over the weekend

    One front wheel slanting inwards...

Thanks for the help guys, that'll give me something to work with over the weekend. Hopefully it's nothing too serious...

    One front wheel slanting inwards...

Yeah sorry, meant to mention that the wheel doesn't wobble when spun, and it always slants inwards at the bottom

    One front wheel slanting inwards...

Ok, I've actually replaced the bearings on the other side and removed the half shaft just out of curiosity so I think I can give it a go. Cheers.

    One front wheel slanting inwards...

Hi guys, I've recently noticed that the front left wheel of my S3 lightweight appears to be slanting inwards. As far as I can tell there's nothing wrong with the other three. Since i've been working on it it's been tucked away in a corner so I've only just noticed, and I'm assuming whoever was...

    More speedo problems...

Hi everyone, just replaced the speedometer on my series 3. I took the cable out at the transmission end to see what condition it was in. Seems absolutely fine but now I can't seem to get it back in properly so that it turns when the wheels are rolling. I'm not really sure if there's any...

    Loose speedo needle?

Thanks again, got the cover off like you said, unfortunately the needle won't go back in. Found a 2nd hand one on ebay for £25 though, which is lucky because it looks like new ones are at least £100!

    Loose speedo needle?

Thanks mate, that sounds ideal. Hopefully mine's the same. I'm glad I asked before doing anything rash...

    Loose speedo needle?

Hi again, been looking into what was wrong with my speedo today. Took the cable out of the transmission end and turned it in a drill, nothing happened. Removed the dashboard panel and pulled the cable out of the back of the clock, everything looked fine to me. Then on closer inspection of the...

    Swivel housing oil level

When I finally remembered to check the diff oil level it turned out that it was well down, so it looks as though the oil worked it's way outwards along the axle like someone else said. Mystery solved (for once). Thanks for posting everybody.

    Swivel housing oil level

Ok cheers, I'll check the diff level when I get home. Sounds like nothing too serious for a change...

    Swivel housing oil level

I'll look into that, cheers mate. Get well soon.

    Swivel housing oil level

Yeah that's kind of what someone else suggested. Just in terms of physics it seems pretty weird that there was enough pressure to fill the whole thing up (presumably emptying wherever it came from in the process). Definitely be interesting to find out.

    Swivel housing oil level

Hi everyone, went to check the oil level in the right swivel pin housing on my s3 recently, before removing the hub. I was a pretty mystified when I took out the filler plug (about half way up) and oil started gushing out. I've made sure that it doesn't have a filler plug on the top, so my first...

    Haynes manual brake bleeding

Hate to ressurect this old thread but I had a bit of useful brake bleeding advice from my local landy specialist. Basically I don't think I'd fully understood that the air gets trapped in the cylinders, not the pipes, and this guy reckons that what he always does is take the shoes off and...

    Haynes manual brake bleeding

Let us know how that goes webbedfootfenman. It'd be a miracle if it could be solved that simply.

    Haynes manual brake bleeding

I have found this page: Nick's Land Rover | Series III 109 Rebuild | » Bleeding Twin Leading Shoe Front Brakes (SIII 109″ and 1980+ 88″) Which is pretty much a step by step guide on how to do it the way Matthewpink has said. Seems like a fairly sure-fire way to do it if all else...
