    Big steering problem!

That sounds good, think I prefer the idea of doing it all on the bench. So you just slide the column out forwards through the bulkhead towards the engine? (Minus the steering wheel!) Sounds like a fairly tough job but I'm quite up for seeing how it all actually works up close. I've got a...

    Big steering problem!

Oh right ok. Do the column and box come out both as fairly sealed units? Or am I liable to lose many bits in the process? (Looks like the bearings from the top of the box might be loose but I hope the rest is fairly secure...) The haynes manual also says something about a special Leyland tool...

    Big steering problem!

Thanks for all the replies, much quicker than expected! I'm sure there wasn't another bearing still inside because I ran my finger round with a bit of grease before putting them back. Plus 10 bearings filled the race pretty snuggly so surely it wouldn't have slotted back into place prefectly...

    Big steering problem!

Hi everyone, here's the story... With the MOT coming up I thought I'd try and fix a leak from the steering box of my S3 lightweight which has been annoying me for a while. The leak was coming from the bottom end plate which seemed accessible from the wheel arch without taking anything out...

Tail and brake lights simultaneously gone on one side?

(Our house is slightly raised up, not our hose) haha

Tail and brake lights simultaneously gone on one side?

Yeah I live in Salthouse over near Sheringham and it was pretty hairy. Big waves washing up the garden but luckily our hose is slightly raised up. A lot of people weren't so lucky unfortunately...

Tail and brake lights simultaneously gone on one side?

Yeah I assume the same haha. Thanks for that, it all sounds fairly logical and worth trying. I'll have a go later. unfortunately I've had to park the landy a couple of miles away due to the flooding situation! I see you're in West Norfolk joe27, hope you're not too near the sea. We've had some...

Tail and brake lights simultaneously gone on one side?

Cheers for all the contributions everyone. I was expecting to get laughed at for such a basic issue! I took the cover off and had a look. The earth bit is very corroded so I thought that was it, but then I realised the RH indicator is grounded in the same place as the tail and brake lights, but...

Tail and brake lights simultaneously gone on one side?

Haha I could easily post some pretty exciting pics of my lights not working! Anyway just wanted someone to tell me I was probably on the right track. I'll get my hands dirty this evening and see if I don't fry myself! Cheers.

Tail and brake lights simultaneously gone on one side?

Hi everyone, I'm almost clueless when it comes to electrical stuff so bear with me... Basically the RH tail and brake lights on my S3 lightweight have gone simultaneously, while the LH are absolutely fine. Now having stared in confusion at the wiring diagram I think I've established that the...

    Fuel gauge issues...

RobertP you were spot on, gave the fuses a tap and the gauge is now working fine. Nothing like a quick fix haha. Cheers for the help everyone.

    Fuel gauge issues...

OK nice one, that sounds like the kind of electrical engineering I can manage. Haven't actually noticed if the temp gauge is gone too. Are they connected and likely to both go down together?

    Fuel gauge issues...

Hi everyone, I realise there are a lot of fuel gauge threads on the forum already but most of them seem to get pretty in depth regarding electrical stuff which goes way over my head, so I'm hoping to get back to basics a bit. A few weeks ago I hadn't started the engine on my S3 for a while and...

Squeaking bodywork (I know it's a landy, but still...)

Couldn't really see what was going on inside the hinges but from the way they rattle about I'm guessing there's not a lot in there. Cheers Ovalsoul, good idea (and more of a permanent fix than WD40 haha)

Squeaking bodywork (I know it's a landy, but still...)

It was the bonnet hinges!!! A squirt of WD40 into each one and the squeak was gone. Ltwt Hybrid you're a bloody genius, cheers mate.

Squeaking bodywork (I know it's a landy, but still...)

Sorry for the delayed reply, been at work this evening. And thanks for the honest answers, I was expecting to get the **** ripped out of me for this one haha. I'm sure it's not mechanical because on a smooth road there is no squeaking. I think the reason it can be heard from outside is just...

Squeaking bodywork (I know it's a landy, but still...)

Sorry everyone, I realise this is a pretty mundane topic as they go, but I've got a really loud squeaking coming from somewhere on the passenger side of my S3, possibly where the bulkhead meets the windscreen. I never used to care or even notice it but apparently it's actually really loud...

Series 3 rear brake - which holes ??

I think I've found exactly the page you want. The photo you need is a bit blurry but good enough I think... Landrover Series 3 Rear Brakes.

    Clunky/rattling noise and burning smell...

Ok brilliant, that sounds like it might be the explanation. Luckily the handbrake is one thing I have messed around with in the past. It was totally seized on when I first started working on the landy so had to free it up and adjust it etc. Fingers crossed... Cheers mate.

Ok cheers, I'll have a look when i get home.
