Series 3 Lightweight - rotten vent panel

Thanks very much John. One of the guys Blackburn mentioned seems fairly definite he'll do it, but more a question of when. If that falls through I might get in touch for details. Cheers.

Series 3 Lightweight - rotten vent panel

Cheers mate, I've been speaking to both the guys you first mentioned and neither have done a lightweight vent panel yet, but they're both actually meaning to do a prototype one soon so hopefully I can get in on that. They've both been really helpful so two good suggestions!

Brilliant cheers guys, nice to have a couple of leads. Fingers crossed someone will be able to help! Thanks very much for your help.

Series 3 Lightweight - rotten vent panel

Haha yeah I remember looking a few years ago and they were £400ish which I thought was a bit steep so put off the job for a bit longer... Foolish choice!

Series 3 Lightweight - rotten vent panel

Hi everyone, I know this is an age old topic and there are a few threads already along the same lines, but they're all quite old so I thought I'd start a new one. As the title suggests the vent panel on my lightweight is rotten all the way long the bottom below the vents so I finally decided to...

Series 3 Oil bath filter replaced with paper filter - breather hose hanging loose...

OK thanks well I'll give it a try as it is and see what happens. It's a Britpart paper filter so wasn't expensive at least! And I've still got the oil bath one so it can always go back on. Also mine's a lightweight so as you say hopefully it might only be a small difference in power. We shall...

Series 3 Oil bath filter replaced with paper filter - breather hose hanging loose...

Right ok no I haven't driven it yet so you may be right there. Is there anything I can do about that in your view? To be fair it also ran fine when I blocked the breather with my finger so I couldn't really work out how important it was...

Series 3 Oil bath filter replaced with paper filter - breather hose hanging loose...

Hi everyone, as the title suggests I've just disconnected the oil bath filter on my 2.25 petrol and replaced it with a paper one that clamps straight on top of the carb (Zenith). I'm quite pleased as it was simple, looks quite nice, and more importantly the engine seems to start and run a lot...

Series 3 Problems with Britpart inner steering column...

Haha a bit of optimism is always helpful with landies. Have to say though that the whole reason I started working on the steering was because the amount of play in the wheel was weighing on my mind a bit, and taking away from the enjoyment of driving. I'm not sure I'll be able to relax knowing...

Series 3 Problems with Britpart inner steering column...

No the nut sometimes sticks on the worm drive when out of the box too.... Oh right I was hoping not to hear that haha. So you used the whole new set-up? How does it get on in the vehicle? Do you ever feel it sticking?

Series 3 Problems with Britpart inner steering column...

Sorry I've been away for a while and trying not to think about steering columns! (Not really sure what happens if it fails the MOT and the only part available in the world is Britpart.....) Thanks Blackburn that's handy to know. I would've assumed the S2 part would be the same so lucky I wasn't...

Series 3 Problems with Britpart inner steering column...

Just came across this on ebay which you'd hope was better quality, but it's a different part number and says it's for series 2. I would assume it would fit my series 3 fine but I've learned not to assume anything with land rovers! If anyone's got any view it would be much appreciated, cheers...

Series 3 Problems with Britpart inner steering column...

Hi thanks for the quick reply. Yeah I did wonder before I bought it but couldn't find any other new ones so thought I'd just go for it. I've actually already done this before and the parts in there were already from a 2nd hand box. They're not too easy to come by from what I remember, and could...

Series 3 Problems with Britpart inner steering column...

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of overhauling the steering box on my lightweight and bought a new Britpart 'inner steering column' (the shaft with the worm drive and nut at the bottom). Yesterday I finally got round to opening up the box and putting in the new parts, which took ages and is...

Other Is a lightweight narrower than other series landies?

Pretty big change of design in 1981 then. Maybe it was to do with changes in transport aircraft meaning they could use more standard parts after all. Anyway lucky for me mine's from 1983!

Other Is a lightweight narrower than other series landies?

That's a relief to hear. Actually it was my dad's before mine and if I remember correctly it had a white hard top on it from an old SWB county or something similar when he bought it, which seemed to fit quite well (apart from it sat on top of the fittings for the hoops so had a nice half inch...

Other Is a lightweight narrower than other series landies?

I've been driving and working on mine for about 4 years now and never even noticed a difference in size... Doh! Now brainstorming what parts I might need in future that would be different to standard. Half-shafts seem to be available for a reasonable price so that's good. I guess a lot of parts...

Other Is a lightweight narrower than other series landies?

Ok I stand corrected. Although I thought the half-ton thing was more of a figure of speech than an actual fact.

Other Is a lightweight narrower than other series landies?

Yeah it always seemed a bit strange to me. If they had to carry the rest of it in a different helicopter...

Other Is a lightweight narrower than other series landies?

I thought that was to do with it weighing half a ton once the canvas, body-panels, windscreen etc were removed for transportation in aircraft. Hence also being known as the "Airportable" land rover...
