Well, I am giving up on my auto box jumping around all over, so going to go down the route of putting in a new box. My question is, is there a better box to replace mine with? Its the fly by wire version in a 1996. Have heard the ones from a V8 are stronger, but not sure if that is true or...

To be fair, the Cooper Discoverer STT pro's I have fitted are extremely quiet for muds - believe it or not, no noise increase from when I switched from BFG All Terrains :)

I have mine on a 2 way relay. So they are on with main beam, off completely or on independently of lights for when we are camping. Noise - mmm, don't really notice too much noise over the noise of the D1 :D

Plus if they are not offset wheels you will need to adjust the steering bump stops to avoid rubbing, or if they are offset, extended arches will be required ;)

I made a set up on the printer till I found a cheap assembly on flea bay, as couldn't find them separately at all (searched for years!!).

just tape on the flexi arches, mark and cut away the metal for them to fit - only tip is be cautious when cutting - better to cut off a little, than too much. You will be surprised how much metal you actual cut away - I was ;)

Having recently done similar with a 1995 tdi, dont be afraid of using a screwdriver to find rot, and then cutting it out to put in new steel. Just be methodical workimg from back to front or vice versa, don't jump around doing all the eassy jobs for example, as you may miss bits. And dont...
