    Roll cage

Get a proper cage, dont #### about with anything remotely iffy. When you put it on its roof and the welds fail crushing your skull you will wonder why you tried to save £££ on a £1200 cage. Drink less beer, smoke less fags, ride your bike to work for a month, there are easier ways to save money...

    Heat Exchanger / Shower For a TD5

Heat exchangers are a bit of a dark art. You could connect a simple one inline with your heater pipes. You would also need a temp valve/regulator to prevent 90c water coming out. A far simpler method is as above, or, install a water system (tank, 12v flojet pump etc) and run a couple of T...

    Overland Trailer - Sankey Based

We would have been screwed without it. We got through Bosnia and Serbia ok. Turkey I think we had to show it, Georgia was fine. Russia was the big one as we had to do 2 customs declarations. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan didn't care much and on our 2nd...

    Overland Trailer - Sankey Based

Ar, this has been brought back to the top. Thanks to Bevhelee I got 'some paperwork' for the sankey and have passed 15 International borders with it. No problems on crap roads, it has proven itself beyond all expectations. We have taken remote tracks in Kyrgyzstan, crossed the Southern Gobi...

Vehicle Dependent expedition guide 3 is out!

Tom Sheppard - Four by four driving techniques and vehicle expedition driving for the lazy. Its a good read, I find it much better, more comprehensive and easier to read than the opinionated Chris Scott's books. Too big for us to carry though so have left it at home :( G

Shipping and customs agent in india

Put a post up on the HUBB in the right section and you will get an answer. There are usually 1 or 2 agencies recommended for certain regions. G

    Fuel tank

ar yes, but I didn't have it fitted for Morocco ;) We took 2 jerry cans and only needed to fill one once. The Aux tank is a neat accessory and comes in handy. For example, the cost of fuel in Turkey is something like £1.60/litre. So when we left Bulgaria I filled up both tanks (85p/litre) and...

    Fuel tank

If you fit the TD5 tank it is fine. If you fit an after-market jobby it depends what you go for. What are you driving? We travelled in a 90 with standard 45L tank and it was fine! Just take a spare (empty) 20L can in case. G

    Fuel tank

haha! true ;) Maybe I should have written 'just incase I think 110 Litres isn't enough' Its nice to have some back-up if 1 of the tanks leaks, also to carry fuel to from other vehicles and when I'm not sure of fuel stops in Siberia and Mongolia. Currently sat in a hotel in Georgia ;) G

    Fuel tank

There is only 1 place like Africa... Africa :D Standard 110 tank should do you for most standard routes in Africa. Take 2 jerry cans also.

    Fuel tank

where are you going, what are you doing, what time of year, what vehicle, what range will you need, where are the fuel stops? answer those questions and you will find your answer. Search on here and you will find another thread detailing the pro's and con's to both. I'm on my way to Siberia...

    Carnet - valuation and modification

That's good to hear as we will be ringing her from Siberia in August to get ours sorted and shipped to Russia so we can enter Australia. Let us know how you get on if you get yours sorted before then. I just read your other post on your 90 and temp import to Nepal. In my experience...

    Carnet - valuation and modification

the CDP is not an insurance policy for you, it is for the country you are taking the vehicle into. It is to cover import duty should you decide to leave it there illegally. 'paying out' etc is not your worry. All you have to worry about is your vehicle, keeping hold of the CDP and making sure...

    overland adventure book?

Im not a huge fan of Chris Scott's writing. It is also more of a guidebook than an overland account. here is an alternative: Tom Sheppard - Four by four driving techniques and vehicle expedition driving If you want ' a couple selling everything and driving their 90+trailer from the UK across...

    Overland Trailer - Sankey Based

Plenty of questions Paul :) Trailer layout is fine, I am very happy with that. No problems yet, but it is early days. Necessity for us as we are driving a 90. We had the whole debate over selling up for a 110/130 3-4 years ago, but having spent so much kitting out the 90 it kind of made sense...
