    freelander bang help

Got a low miliage rear diff knocking about in my garage if you are interested? The bang sounds like your mounts are shot though - fear not - cheap and easy. Get under the rear diff and try to push the front of it (where the main prop shaft goes into it) upwards. If the mount is shot you...

    Heater Resistor

Oh its all getting a bit technical now lads....I just need someone to say.."Solder this here and that there".:D

    Which Freelander ?

L Series - Stone age engine, Billions of mile potential, cobwebs on the engine, 46 MPG after a few tweaks and no clonks or bangs after a few tonnes of soundproofing are added. :D Does it have a head gasket?

    clunking noise

Simple thing I know - but worth checking the "U" washers are in place on the main prop. If these fall out it makes lots of play and you get "clunk" or more like "crack-ting" when going from reverse to 1st ot vice versa as the joints move on the splines.:o

    Heater Resistor

Hmm...well on heater setting 1 the thinnest coil does glow slightly when its hanging in the footwell occasionally melting a bit of carpet on contact as it swings. Wouldn't like to lick it - lets put it that way. Whats the verdict on the above listed resistors then? Worth a go or do you recon...

Got a spare low miliage diff knocking around in my garage if you are interested?:)

    Heater Resistor

Well when i soldered the original springy wires back together they actually glowed anyway! Quite scary - is this normal?

    Heater Resistor

Ahh..and there was silly me thinking boggo standard resistors would do. Resistor wire it is then. Excuse my electronic ignorance!!!;) Thanks for the link also.

    Heater Resistor

Right - soldered in the new resistors and "fiizzzzzzz", funny burning smell and blown resistors. Am I missing something fundimental? Yes - I connected them in the same place as the resistor wire. Bit stuck. Setting 3 still works but that does have a big chonking resistor wire that could probably...

    Vibration at approx 1750 rpm?

I recon they have got the details wrong to be honest - its listed under L series but refers to the K series?!? Also - can you imagine pulling those revvs and NOT getting vibration? I chuckled on my work today as i was driving without the stereo on with my ear tilted and an atrentive frown on...

    Heater Resistor

What have I started?? :D Well off I go to maplins...I am gonna go for 2.5,1.5 and 0.5 as I hardly ever use anything above setting 2 due to the noise. This should hopefully move settings 1 - 3 further down the range with minimal noise and leave max settings for emergency de-mist hurricaine speed.;)

    Heater Resistor

James - you bloomin star! Got the resistors out this morning, turns out they are in the heater box under the dash drivers side...just follow the wires. Undid the 2 screws and removed. Was gobsmacked that the resistors make the electrics on a spitfire look advanced. Curly wires???? Mein...

    Vibration at approx 1750 rpm?

Oh dear. So still no Joy then? Sounds identical to Tiny with the vibration. Hmmm...thinking caps on then. Just to check this is the same problem - does it drive fine on light throttle but as soon as you put your foot down you get a "grrrrr..hummmmm" like you are in the wrong gear (but you are...

    Heater Resistor

Hi Folks. Tiny needs your help again. Her heater blower switch has done next to naff all on number 1 setting for years now, now number 2 has stopped working also. I noticed on a Rover forum this is quite common and eventually all the settings will be dead as the resistors eventually fail. Now...

    Vibration at approx 1750 rpm?

Tiny did suffer from something similar - yeah. Used to get louder the further your right foot went down in low revvs then just go as soon as the power really kicked in. I replaced the tie bar and all went quiet for a while. It returned a few weeks later so I went on a mission banging panels with...

    Cool Runnings

There's deffo no air in Tiny but the link you provided does mention a thermatwat problem so off to the dealer i go. £14.99 sounds a fair price but you should see where the bloody thing is!!! Right down the front of the block attached to the oil cooler and about 50,000 hoses and pipes. This is a...

Oh dear. Hey - Can't remember if this was mentioned ages ago but have you replaced the leak off pipes on the injectors? Reason I ask is that Tiny's are a bit worn and have started drawing air in. Just off to the shop to get a length of replacement pipe.
