From Somerset and thinking of a disco 1 rather than my 1959 Series 2

21 will report myself to Admins to see if I may post a Car Wanted ad please without doing this another 25 times!

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

Yes, I will look into that. Or could get a fairly good o e for now, search for a keeper, and if I find o e, sell it again

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

Yup. Was close to buying a high spec, off road modded 1999 for £3K which vendor says cost £2500 in quality welding this year. Yet a subsequent MOT has an advisory on chassis rot close to rear shocker! Makes me think its rear chassis is shot and will need annual money for MOT. Am reluctantly...

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

Great advice from you lot, thanks. On balance my ideal would be a Disco 2 on a galvanised chassis...but even a half chassis...auto, diesel, aircon. No matter if modded or not. Defender 90 perhaps, though they have lower spec. Who might be ready to sell one? Have seen some great value Disco 2s...

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

Thanks the side slope comment is reassuring. I did once tip a 110 Defender, very slowly indeed, when going up a track in Australia. It had a rooftop tent, without which I am certain, as the tip was so slow, that it would have been OK. I like the convenience of the rooftop tents, but won't...

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

Is the TDV6 good or even more complex? Starting to look like Disco 1 with little rust may be hard to find. Lots more Discos. Nice to have up to 2001 for lower tax, but am surprised to find some TDV6 in budget if I was to buy newer than 2001 and wear the extra tax. Edit....think TDV6 was offered...

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

Thanks, good points. Maybe I'm fantasising that there are low rust Disco 1s out there still, at a reasonable price. I know that the RRC is a rust bucket unless rebuilt, and I guess they are very similar cans of worms. I can weld, but am not very good. Lots of birds poo type spatter.

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

My 109 is 1959, but a Bitsa. Bulkhead is original, not much else. 200tdi, high ratio diffs, 5 speed LT77 with a Disco transfer case modified to selectable 2/4 wd. Various other mods but standard suspension. But, we are now in our mid 60's, partner refuses to drive it. We can't talk above 20 MPH...

Wilco, thanks. Believe TD5 is terrific when its working well.

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

vin Thanks Rich. By keep up, I mean that the basic Landies have better angles of approach and departure, which on some of the lanes in Wales are used fully. Some muddy lanes I use on Salisbury Plain, our diffs dig in a bit. A standard Disco 1 is, in theory, less good on these 3 counts. Having...

    Thanks, don't want that pain!

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

Thanks. 2.0 MPI sounds a bad bet, probably pointless as I'd prefer auto. Rust is the worry, my 1986 RRC had lots and I fear these may be similar. Thinking Disco 1 as worried that Disco 2 may be less reliable off road due to more electrics and the TD5 with ECU .... but am I wrong? Do they rust less?

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

Hi, Joined this forum as I think I'm getting too old to keep on with my Series 2 but still want a competent (and comfortable) vehicle to join my Series friends on trips to Wales where the lanes are a challenge to anything much less than a standard Series/Defender. Often I'm on side slopes too...
