    Air Suspension won't inflate

Here is Alan's original message to me... "The Range Rover is year 1999, 4.0 petrol, whenever you start the vehicle there is an alternator fault showing on the dash , yet the alternator is charging at full rate the battery is also charging at 13.6v. All the lights are on for the suspension and it...

    Air Suspension won't inflate

Guys this is all very helpful - thanks. My mate (Alan) is highly frustrated with this problem - I will get him to try out the suggestions and get some feedback on here. I don't think the pump switches on at all when the vehicle starts but it can be independently powered and does work.

    Drive problem

Is your diff lock light coming on and off as you engage, disengage. I wonder if your t-box is actually letting you engage normal drive properly? If not it does sound like something is gone up front. I think that clunk is normal in diff lock - it's a rougher gearing selection - mine does the...

Should a transfer box output shaft wobble?

You can get, I think, 12 and 24 spline diffs on Defenders. Mine are the older 12 splines. There are different ratios which produce more or less wheel turn per turn of the the diff - regardless of the number of splines. I checked mine today. Both are 1.75 diff turns to 1 wheel rotation, so I...

Should a transfer box output shaft wobble?

Hey Scott...I've done my research and the UJ's should line up or as close as. Phasing them all seems a bit of smoke and mirrors. The wee spinning bit on the flange is actually a shield which fits around it - gently try and lever it closer to the neck of the flange in situ - it will ride over a...

1990 200 TDI numerous symptoms, finding out on Sunday but what does anyone think?

The timing belt CAN slip or someone could have put it on either advanced a notch or retarded a notch - neither is good. Advanced means it will run hot and noisier and use water. Drive it up to beside another 200tdi and have a wee listen to both. Sean is right about the pump - check for...

    How does castor correction work

Jai - surely an easy way for me to test that both diffs are the same ratio would be to jack a back wheel and a front wheel - then measure the distance turned by the each diff flange for one full rotation of a tyre?

    Air Suspension won't inflate

Hi guys. My mate has a 1999 4.0 petrol. It won't inflate the suspension on start up. The pump works ok and was checked. A warning light has come on for the alternator but it is generating power and at the same time the tachometer has stopped working. Am wondering if fixing the tacho issue...

    How does castor correction work

Hi Jai - diff lock disengaged - got under the 90 and checked it myself - when diff is on it is right and clunky and can't turn tight circles - none of those probs. But it is so much lighter and smoother with the front prop off in diff lock. Maybe I need to change the front diff anyway - I...

Should a transfer box output shaft wobble?

Hi mate - yes the wobble is the flange being able to move side to side - even with a new bearing in. I noted that the flange was wobbly until I put all the way onto the output - it looks a little worn inside but I am not expert. The output shaft was a problem but I reckon it was caused by the...

Should a transfer box output shaft wobble?

Hello all and thanks for your advices - I am going to just replace the t-box. Bushtoy - the bearing in mine is a really tight fit so I assume the case was good.

    How does castor correction work

I should also mention I have a big heavy winch bumper on the front. Not sure about the effect of this on the whole matter.

    How does castor correction work

Dear boffins! After a 2 inch lift my Def 90 steering was poor. The mechanic fitted castor correction bushes and it was much improved and a kick-back/shudder effect on the clutch pedal when turning the landy off, disappeared. I am using a double carden prop to avoid vibration - although I am...

Should a transfer box output shaft wobble?

Hi Woodsy I've a replacement box and I think it will go in. Did you change your output shaft to get it quieter, or the whole box? The vibration is much much better with my new custom double carden prop and a set of castor correction bushes, although it is now present at a lower rev range...

Does anyone even know if it should wobble just a little?

Should a transfer box output shaft wobble?

Hi all I just refitted a new bearing on the front output of my Disco tranfer box on a Defender. When doing this I noted that on taking out and returning the output shaft, it was quite loose in it's housing when fully inserted - I am tlaking about a a radius wobble of about 10mm on the end...

HELP! think I may have a major prob on my hands

Chock the wheels. Handbrake off. Stick her in neutral. Get under the car - safely of course. Grab the front prop on the bar at the axle end, then the middle, then the T box end. Shake each section hard and see if it wobbles or clicks. It should only rotate smoothly, not wobble or click...

Boarding out a 90, a bench seat related question?

In my previous 110 and in my current 90 there are bolt fittings for the seat backs just below the window line in the plastic frame. I took my windows out and panelled the area in aluminium - that's another story. Anyway, I am thinking that seats would fit within your boarded area going...

    Custom built prop too short???

I told them and they suggested the double carden and said they could not be certain why the first problem occurred. They advised the double carden had a travel range of at least 100mm and said that was normal, which makes me wonder why I got one with 70mm range and 300mm of that covered in...
