Disco td5 - ran out fuel - wont start

Hi, Disco (MRS) ran out of fuel, put in 6lts from fuel can and tried to start it. Turned over but no start - so I may have inadvertantly introduced more air into system. Looked in the handbook and saw procedure - (ig on 30 secs, off 15secs and repeat 6 times trying to start on last 30secs -...

    Td5 - vibration/judder on acceleration & deceleration

Well it all went a box of chocolates - I pressed out 2 caps fine and they moved quite easily. The next 2 were much more unwilling to move requiring a lot more welly to budge them. One came out but it was only half a cap, the sides of the cap were rusty and broken away, the second one was so...

    Td5 - vibration/judder on acceleration & deceleration

Ebay they are £50 to £100, don't think I'd trust the cheapo £20 ones (Amtech...)

Ok - I'll have a look - Rekord seems to ring a bell, something like that?

    Td5 - vibration/judder on acceleration & deceleration

Top Tip! - I don't have that either but could be cheaper than Garage option I guess - mind you, would have to be a pretty meaty one wouldn't it?

    Td5 - vibration/judder on acceleration & deceleration

It is a 99 - No grease nipples so looks factory from what I've gleaned on the website. I've removed the front shaft now (courtesy of the inevitable one rounded nut which I just managed to get off at the last minute before setting fire to the whole shabang) and the joint that had 1 0r 2 mm of...

    Td5 - vibration/judder on acceleration & deceleration

Further update - I rechecked the props and after moving the disco into a different position (should have done this with wheels off ground but don't easily have this option) and have found some play in the rear of the front shaft where it is in that double jointed bit. It doesn't seem very much...

    Td5 - vibration/judder on acceleration & deceleration

Ok thanks - So understand I can't just jack it up, but does that mean I can't disc onnect rear prop and run FWD to isolate the rear ?

    Td5 - vibration/judder on acceleration & deceleration

I've just been out in it again looking for more symptoms - and I'm not sure it is down on power after all - it does feel like something in the drive train as you said. As I can't feel any movement is there a way of isolating components so I can run it up on a jack or something (like a 2 wheel...

    Td5 - vibration/judder on acceleration & deceleration

Thanks for fast reply - crawled under and all appears tight and no movement possible by hand in any direction. Incidentally, this came on all of a sudden and does have reduced power - on the flat it runs fine. Judder/Vibration is more noticeable under load

    Td5 - vibration/judder on acceleration & deceleration

Hi - TD5 Disco 2 is juddering/vibrating on acceleration and deceleration - I thought misfire at 1st as it is down on power too. It does not smoke and runs perfectly on tickover or revving whilst at standstill - All this happens only under load. Checked injector loom and cleaned out some oil at...

Td5 fuel pump - no noise - busted?

Thanks everybody - it was the pump - all up and running again. Just a note for anyone doing this, I only found this tip after a lot of searching while I was struggling - when reassembling make sure you place the seal in its groove on the tank before attempting to finally push home the pump and...

Td5 fuel pump - no noise - busted?

PS - Just found out why it failed as it did - Apparently the fuel pump pressurises the tank, and as long as you don't open the fuel cap or have some other kind of leak, even when the pump fails the car will run pretty much as normal - open the fuel cap (as my missus did to fuel up) and pressure...

Td5 fuel pump - no noise - busted?

A bit more info - When I did the 6 times off and on ignition etc - I've read that the engine light should stay on, it doesnt - its on momentarily and then goes off with all the other lights (I think 3 reds were left on thats all, but the yellow engine goes off) - Correct?

Td5 fuel pump - no noise - busted?

I have a TD5 DISCO 1999 - Today it was running perfectly, my Wife took it in to Garage and fueled up - 30 sec after pulling out of garage is started running rough and got rougher until it conked out. I've checked the receipt and sniffed the tank - it hasn't got petrol in it. As she said it was...

Good Price Paid To Replace Core Plug in TD5 Discovery 2

Well I broke down with it (temp shot up on gauge but no other indication) and on hard shoulder found water pouring out of the plug like a fountain. RAC attended and tried Radweld - it slowed it until system pressurised and off it went again. Its a small hole but amazing quantity of water came...
