    its the connector for the erg vacuum solenoid, in your pic it shows you have an erg bypass fitted, so connector wont be needed,

    if you want to spend your money on changing oil, carry on , but its not nessasary, just check the oil levels at regular intervals, its a freelander not an f1 racer , dose anyone ever bother to change the brake fluid ? or power steering fluids ?

    go back to the fuel filter and check you have got the sensor plug connected correctly, you may have incorectly plugged it back in , try reversing the plug

    another thing to bear in mind , second hand spares are relatively cheap and plentiful for the td4 and usually a day or two for delivery, so you are unlikely to be stuck for very long
