on the fuel filter is a pressure switch , sounds like you might be loosing prime , recheck tightness of all connections /fuel filter, although they are push in o rings can perished

have you checked earth leads and main battery terminals, also could be a bad cell in the battery

is the tickover lumpy ?

sounds like a fuel pump issue, just because its making a noise dont mean its pumping fuel, i have just replaced one a few weeks ago,, you need to have fuel pressure at the fuel filter and fuel rail sensor

not sure what is going on with your tyres , but im on my 3rd set of goodyear wranglers, i always get at least 35k out of a set, they suit my alround driving, great road holding when cornering and good in snow,,

agree---- double check all your new joints most prob overtightened the one that failed, with the handbrake cable buy a new one, i tried re-oiling mine ,but 6 months later it siezed the parking brake on , the inner cable is nylon coated,it had worn through and become rusty inside but 6...

have you removed the bottom engine mounting ?, enables the engine to tilt, might give you a little more room to get at it

not sure if this might help , i have just had to fit a new inline fuel pump (2001 td4 ) symptoms , were very sluggish and took an age to get up to speed i also have a synergy unit fitted

its very similar to axle grease, ,, dont tell me you dont know what that is either ?

this is a very current topic im in a similar situation car 2001 td4, car failed to start the other day, it was the inline fuel pump the one located on the nearside engine bay , all i did was give it a tap to get it going, got home and removed the pump and tested it on the bench, it seemed ok...

andrew, it sounds like you have tried the obvious / usual suspects, i had a similar problem which took me ages to find the problem, turned out to be the plug connection on my synregy unit at the fuel rail sensor, in the end i cut the plug off and used connection blocks , sticking turbo vane...

very true , my crankshaft snapped last year , also pully fell apart , check it isnt comming adrift

think yourself lucky its starts , just drive it :D

possibly camshaft sensor ,or fuel pump issue, unlikely to be fuel quality

auto /man have different numbers, but as has been mentioned it dont make any noticable difference,

sounds like an injector problem,, with the engine running , pull off a connector to one of the injectors,if its ok the engine will start to splutter, reconnect , if its faulty it will have little effect, do this to each injector in turn

its very difficult to diagnose when not actually there, but what is it like like on tickover ? a new airfilter wont make any difference, but to start with , have at look at the following 1, fuel rail sensor ,try to wiggle the connector when the engine its ticking over, 2, possibly...

how often are you topping up ? possible its a pin hole leak somewhere, and only under full pressure , i have found leaks in the past when its dark with the aid of a torch seems easier to spot them, td4,, leaks i have found on mine , 1, thermostat casing 2, header tank cap, 3, oilcooler...
