    Hazard lights flashing?

there is a crash sensor which can get tripped and cause the doors to unlock and hazrards go......my wife kicked it by accident once which is how i found out about it..... (its licated jyst above the passenger footwell). It can be reset using an ignition key sequence, its in the manual how. this...

    Oats coolant

ive been told you should not use oat if you have a brass rad, its only for (newer) cars with ally rads, i used it on a 94 toyota 4wd with a brass rad and it wrecked the rad within 6 months. Its not an issue for me as i doubt I could go 5 years with the disco without having a reason to drain the...

    Towing troubles

i can vouch for the effect on power of getting the injedtor pump adjustment wrong, i turned mine the wrong way, it started just fine but did not have the strength to reverse over a 2inch bump to get out of the shed :5bbanghead:

    Towing troubles

my 96 hilux surf was a rubbish car compared to my disco, general consensus on the equivalent forum to this one was that they had pretty much unsolvable problems with overheating .....I followed the advice and spent a load of $$$$$ and it still overheated when towing......so I bought the disco...

    Towing troubles

My red 96 auto tows a horse and trailer all up over 1700kg, not as good a 90's 4l land cruiser but but better than my 1994 3l hilux surf. I think yours is down on the power it should have, even in hilly NZ it rarely drops to 2ndd on main roads, if you get the pump wrong it can reduce power but...

    Overheated 300TDi

There is quite an art to topping the water, have you searched this forum for the various methods? if you get it wrong the heater wont work, on mine i had to back flush the heater matrix and also fill it before going through the top up process, this fixed my overheating when towing, getting it...

Disco 1 cam belt question help needed ASAP

I fitted a new cambelt In a 300tdi auto but made the flywheel lockIng tool out of the drain plug by drillIng and tappIng It and putting a small bolt in it afterwards. you could probably gamble on the crank not moving during belt replacement but it would add a bit of risk to the job. I found the...

    SRS light stays on

mine came on after i left the ignition on, the gradual drop in battery voltage causes the srs black box to show a fault, eg low voltage, it has to be reset to make the light behave normally, although i did not bother. Im not sure if only landrover dealers can do the reset. Disconnecting the...

Overheating but no obvious Head Gasket Failure signs

jet washing yr rad can wreck it! fins get bent over and block air flow etc. it might be worth changing the thermostat, even it appears to be working and cutting in at the right temp it may not be opening fully? note it is bypass type so removing as a test to see if it the cuase of the problem...

My first Land Rover - tow car!

hi:daze, as you have the water tank out you can check the rubber seal around the wires isnt your source of leak as it is exposed when the tank is out, normally you cant see it. That seal does not leak on mine, or at least thats not where the leak shows itself, im not sure how water would get to...

My first Land Rover - tow car!

Thanks Richard, Ill give that fix a bash. What puzzles me is how water can get from the screen to the footwell! Does it get inside the pillar and then into the footwell? Ive had both the wings off and there is virtually no rust on my car, whilst there I just redid the sealant on the vertical...

    Cam Belt

Time will tell if I have made a mistake but my 1996 tdi has done 340,000 and had a few cam belt changes, and I changed the last one myself but only replaced the belt onto the existing toothed pulleys without shoulders. The belt on it looked like new and had done 100,000 km. Leads me to think...

My first Land Rover - tow car!

if it had damp carpet but not caaused by rain aircon drains would be the suspect,:if it has aircon! personally I hate the leaks, I just dont like the idea of the car rusting away if I could stop it, just wish I could stop it.......

My first Land Rover - tow car!

hi, even though you want to keep it standard I think it is good advice to remove the rubber sound proofing from the front footwells, in the long term it will stop rust in those areas, if you do manage to stop the leaks, which is by no means certain :mad: you will you can maybe put some back!

poor start and dodgey glow plugs

g233 cured his non start problem by bypassing the fuel solenoid...I think......depending on your type of pump you could try this, on ssome like mine there is a spade terminal you can simply apply 12v to, tto bypass it, or you can remove the spring inside it, which has same effect, iff you dont...
