    Netto welder £35

There's another issue with small/cheap welders. They overheat and cut out. Weld for 2 mins, wait 20 for it to cool down, weld for two minutes, wait 20 for.....etc,etc. Takes forever to get anything done unless the job is very small. Bought myself a gasless mig, fan cooled. Brilliant...

    Rear door trim removal

Thanks guys. Battenberg - that's defeatist that is! Probably a good plan though. :)

    Rear door trim removal

Mornin' all, I was looking at how to take the rear door trim panel off, ('98 Tdi), without breaking all the plastic retainers the other night. The book says to take off all the bits that screw through the panel, (Cor, wouldn't have thought of that!:) ), then use a trim removal tool to remove...

    Disco 1 Tow Hitch removal

.......which is what I've just done. Bought it from a 4x4 parts company that shares it's name with a newspaper. Just need to drill some holes further up the drop plate so that the tow ball is at a sensible height and make some spacers for under the anti roll bar bushes to stop it fouling on...

    Road Tax and Discos

It rains a lot on a warmer planet.....something to do with evaporation I believe. :) Just gonna go get my tin hat now and duck.:D As for the rest of Disco Moneypits diatribe (Tony, Gordo et al) gotta say I agree.

    Brakes pulsating and motor sound....

If this happens only on heavy breaking then I'm with the other guys on this one. If it happens when you are breaking normally, say when coming to a stop at a junction, then you might need to reseat one or more of the wheel sensors. I finally got down to sorting mine after it stopped 3 feet...

    Wotcher fink?

Yeah, that's what I thought when I bought an RRC, then I went to weld a wee patch over a hole in the rear wheel arch. Finally stopped welding when I got to he headlight! Disco's are very similar so take a really good look, (then go buy a mig! :) )

    Back Door 200tdi

You mean apart from looking like a van? :D
  9. S

    Back Door 200tdi

Point taken. My first impulse was to suggest that it'd be better to enforce having at least one spare that was servicable but then there's bound to be some vehicle out there that can't carry one isn't there! :)
  10. S

    Back Door 200tdi

The spare's not an MOT test item? What's the logic to that then? MOTs seem to be more and more of a farce as time goes on!

Where to put my trailer socket......

Heyup Raz, It's the Guardian guard and drop plate that I'm fitting, they do a recovery point for it but it's the towing plate that I'll be using. As to whether it meets any particular standard, I must admit I hadn't thought of that....better check on that! I was thinking that putting the socket...

Where to put my trailer socket......

ok, ok, I know what you lot are like. There's a wide variety of anatomically unpleasant places I could put it but I'm not going to go there! :D I'm planning to fit a tank guard with a removable drop plate on it to my Disco, ('98 300tdi), so I've been giving some thought to the electrics. It...

    disco deepender disco deepender

Lancaster seem pretty good for insurance. £168 TPF+T on a disco for me. Mind you that is low mileage and I'm getting old..... I went through the defender/disco choice not long ago. Saw loads of defenders going for stupid money that where basically battered and needing fixing. Went for a disco...

    Head lining removal

Take a look at http://stbernardtrust.bravehost.com/sunroof.html some useful photos and description. Not sure of the age of the vehicle in the photos, mine was slightly different in that the B pillar trim is glued in place rather than held by clips. I just gently persuaded the roof lining...

    Urgent Plea Discovery Wont Start

If the dizzy on your V8 is like the one in my old range rover, there's a two pin connector on the side of it. I had trouble with it not making contact properly, result - I'd grind to an embarassing halt at random times. Gave it a good clean and pinched the contacts to tighten them and that...

    OMG ......... what have i done ...........

The trick is to only look at a bit of it at a time. Doesn't seem so bad then! :) Had a classic RR in a similar state, started welding the back wheel arches and finally ran out of rust at the headlights! Looking at it I'd guess the sills n floor pans'll have had it too. Oh, maybe I shouldn't...

300tdi oil cooler pipe swap -- messy job?

Thanks for that, I'll make sure I've got some rags handy then. The wench'll kill me if I get oil on the drive! ;)

Well if it was me, I'd keep using that garage for MOTs.....but not much else!:)

    ABS problems

I tried the pull the light and fuses trick (on a classic RR). Instant MOT fail, the bod said that the ABS light should come on at startup then go out when you move off. It didn't so it failed....:(

300tdi oil cooler pipe swap -- messy job?

Mornin! Just bought myself a '98 300tdi Disco. Needs a few odds and sods sorting but generally looks pretty solid. Anyhow the oil cooler pipes are leaking at the rubber/metal joint. I'd like to swap them out so here's the question, with the engine stopped, (obviously! :) ), does the oil in the...
