    Towing

It's simple. Forget all about actual weights, it's only the theoretical maximum that matters. If the two together are more than 3.5 tonnes, you can't tow it, except in the special case, where the towing vehicle is 3.5 when you can tow a little 750kg trailer. If the two together are less than...

    bit of an annoying one

No-one gloating that I can see. The usual level of healthy banter that accompanies the relief that everyone is fine, and it's just metal that needs putting back into shape. Apologies if anyone thought otherwise. MW

xyz switch - How F'ing Much!!!?

Right, gotcha. Think I must still be a bit weak with shock! Will get under it at the weekend and have a bit of a look. Thanks again MW

xyz switch - How F'ing Much!!!?

Thanks. So do I understand correctly that an (Invalid) whilst driving along, with no other faults or warning lights clearly indicates the switch is at fault? The PRND123 is matching the selection, and moves really quickly. Strange the specialist didn't spot it, but they have offered to have it...

xyz switch - How F'ing Much!!!?

I've started getting the M&S Light more and more often of late, so as the truck was going in for the manifold gasket, I figured I'd ask them to double check my diagnosis, and sort out the XY switch too. Typically the truck behaved perfectly, with no gearbox lights at all, and they were honest...

    bit of an annoying one

Defenders don't have inbuilt crumple zones. So Landrover manufactured some aftermarket ones. Come on, you don't think Freelanders have any other purpose? MW

    LPG on a diesel

Thinking about this a bit more, I'd say it is sort of equivalent to putting Nitrous on a Petrol car. So yes it's an additional fuel that could make the engine more efficient on it's main fuel, or perform better, or melt down/blow up, depending on how it is set up. MW

    LPG on a diesel

Sorry Wammers, but I have no idea what you are talking about, and I don't think you have read the same article the rest of us have! Injecting a gas into the diesel fuel line would be pretty silly, and is NOT what is being spoken about here. The Articles are all about introducing a quantity of...

    LPG on a diesel

The article in the original link is about Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) or propane. The same stuff that many V8 lovers use. Nothing about compressed Natural Gas (CNG). It's a similar kit to that found on petrol engines, but delivering a small amount of gas to augment the diesel, and thus...

can an high milage v8 be reliable

Provided you have a bit of mechanical sympathy, and are prepared to do, or pay to have done, sensible maintenance and checks, then they can be as reliable as any other high mileage motor. My V8 was still what I would consider reliable with 180000 on it, when I sold it. It had let me down once...

V8 LPG vs TD5 fuel economy

I'll say it again, cos i may not have been very clear. Running the V8 was no cheaper than running the td5 is now, at least for me. yes the fuel is cheaper (artificially created situation due to tax, and therefore subject to change at the whim of the government), but not quite by 50%. Mileage...

    Really tempted.honest opinions wanted

I would make sure you see it before thinking too seriously. The bloke is a small time dealer and I once made the mistake of going to see a Rangie up there. He certainly manages to get the best out of his stock for photos, I was unpleasantly surprised. Add to that there was water ****ing from...

    Ahh crap!

To avoid a mouthful when siphoning, you need a second length of hose, and a rigid bottle of some sort (or the container you are using needs to be rigid). Seal as best you can the neck of the bottle around the hoses, then when you suck on the 'spare' hose, you create a vacuum in the bottle...
