Low battery power? You say you don't use it often, so if it drops to a certain amount the alarm may go off for that reason, does on my bike anyway. :)

Get a spare set of rear lights, seperate the polycarbonate lense from the reflector part at the back, measure up and silicone in LED boards (can be found on ebay) and solder the wires to the bulb holder connections. Will look standard but be VERY bright and effective. Failing that easier option...

When mine was drawing air in it was on the lines from the sedimenter. It'd tickover fine and run alright at 30mph but put ya foot down and it'd bog down, stall and die. Guess the fuel was turning to foam.
