Top speed seems about right but I think you need to give the engine a full service. Timing, carburettor, plugs, air filter, engine oil & filter. Then see how you go.

Without an overdrive, 45-55mph is about the norm without thrashing the nuts off your engine. You shouldn't have to change down to second up hills though, not unless it's the mother of all inclines! What sort of hills are you talking about?

Hi. You're going to get the cheapest insurance on a Series vehicle & it doesn't make any difference whether petrol or diesel on older vehicles. An 88" will be the easiest to drive by far so start saving!

Seems obvious now, side lights. I thought they may have been parking lights or such like. I've also got a light on the top right hand side at the back, above the door hinges. Can't find the switch for this anywhere. Is it aftermarket?

Hi, I'm after some new front seats for my 90. High-backed if possible but not too fussed. Where are the best places online to buy 'em? Exmoor trim are very expensive and everywhere else just seem to do Series seats.

Yes it's a pain and a real design flaw which affected the Series front doors too! A cover over the housing wouldn't stop rain blowing in if it's windy so unless anybody has a better idea putting an angled lip of filler inside the handle and painting seems to be the best option.

Ah, on every car I'e ever had the side lights were part of the main light lens. So should the side lights stay on when the main lights are on as well?

Hi all, what are the two clear lenses above the indicators for? When I put my lights on, the driver's side one of these lights illuminates along with the lights. The other side does nothing so before I delve into what the problem is, I'd like to know what the hell they're for! Thanks.

Hi guys, my Defender leans slightly to the left. Not dramatically but noticeable nontheless and you can feel it when driving. It doesn't pull to the left at all, even under braking, it's just that it doesn't actually sit level. Any idea what might have caused this?
