Depending on how bad the wear is you might be able to get away with a 'cheap fix' - fitting a new cross-drilled input gear (Ashcroft Transmissions - Input gear) which will half the backlash between it and mainshaft and prevent further increased wearing. A few Google searches will throw up...

It'll be one of the 19J Diesel Turbo engines, one before the 200TDi. They were the 2.5 N/A with a turbo and modifications to help cope with being turbocharged. From what I found when I was buying, you seem take a gamble with the 19J, you'll either get a good one that'll see you on for a while...

Gasket goes between the drive member and the main hub. The drive member is the bit that the plastic cap clips on to, it's what the half shaft turns to turn the wheel.

I believe voltage at battery with engine running should be around 14v...

Thanks for your help, I think I've tracked down the washers - ERR896. Will replace them as soon as I can, hope that sorts it. Will keep an eye on coolant. :(

Thanks James, don't suppose you know the size of the washers? HGF is all I need :( Intercooler hoses do have a bit of oil in them if I remember from replacing a split hose. Could that not be the cyclone breather as there is some oil also present in intake hose from air filter?

Ah christ I hope not. :( I already need a new gearbox...

OK, so doing some further evening research has led me to thinking that the two copper sealing washers at the oil feed banjo could be the culprit, or a good place to start at least. Does anyone know the size of these washers so I can get some before I take it apart? :)

My 200TDi has been leaking oil for a while now, it drips off the front of the bellhousing, the sump and exhaust downpipe. On further inspection I traced the oil path upwards and it seems to be coming from the mid-section of the turbo. Everything below the turbo is covered in oil, it runs down...

Thanks for all your help James. Stuck the old gear back in as new one wouldn't have made much of a difference and would be a bit of a waste. Will save it for when I can get a reconditioned box. Still drives though, just...for now.

Got it off using a screwdriver just behind dog gear to act as a lever, was just held in by all the red paste from the ground up shaft. Can't believe it's been managing to drive on what is left, looks like the splines sheared off long ago and it's just running on the very bases of them...

Thanks for your help again James. After having to give up earlier in the week I've finally got the bearing plate off thanks to removing the exhaust mid-section. Turns out it also has a paper gasket on that side, so good thing I bought two gaskets! Although it's one problem after the other, now...
