    Police a came a knocking....

Easiest way of making your p38 look like a sport is just don't buy one - leave the drive empty where your sport would have briefly lived.

    10w/40 Magnatec Semi Synth

Sounds a bit like one of my posts - Mobil 1 massively outperforms everything else (or used to when I was in the industry). C****** synthetics aren't, other than that the majority of fully and semi-synths are pretty much as good as each other. If you want to see how good your synth stock is -...

    10w/40 Magnatec Semi Synth

200ml of petrol (mixed with a little engine oil) makes a perfectly good engine flush. Anything else is a waste of money - and of course on abused sludged up engines I'd leave the sludge where it is rather than encourage it to disperse into the oil and block all your oilways.

First time buyer in need of help choosing a good 'un

It's a game of luck - the youngest P38s are now 13 years old - even an apparently mint well looked after one could have every problem in the book.

My old man's was a yellow ex GPO one too - but resprayed blue - on the outside only!

    Steering failure

Niceties aside - Isn't anyone just a little bit worried that this man suffered a complete steering failure? Imagine this was at motorway speed?

Isofix? Us four boys would race to get into the back of my old man's Comma van first - why? The first two would get the relative comfort of the wheel arches to sit on - the next two would get to sit on one of the (many) toolboxes - as my old man was a plant engineer the tools were huge and heavy...

Well there's plenty of potential with a 200TDI - excellent engines and pretty robust if looked after.

    Top End Refresh....

The biggest problem you've got now is thieving pikies - if you don't bolt the sodding thing down it will go missing... A mate of mine put some kind of a solenoid in on his brake lines so he could press the brake then isolate the lines keeping brake pressure locking the wheels. It can still be...

Sorry to hear the g/box woes - told you to git rid of the bloody thing (L322) and buy another one that works! :)

    Wrong GEARBOX OIL!

I can't fathom why you'd want to try to sort out the mess caused by the garage - it's their responsibility and the flush/refill should be at their cost.

Hi Ash - Happy New Year to you too! Good luck with getting to the bottom of your vibration! Mine had a similar issue and it was the UJs on the front prop.

    So ****ed off

Are you sure your shuddering problem isn't an expiring transmission? Did it do it stationary as well?

    SO….. why do you…??

+1 The car never feels out of place anywhere - most of the people in my company drive top-end Kraut rubbish but nobody bats an eyelid at my p38 - usually they'd rip the pish out of anyone they perceived to be driving a banger. The ride quality off road is what stuns me - I didn't really...

I think the original 3 door classic was a stunner - the 5 door always looked like two cars welded together to me - the P38 and L322 are much better proportioned and look like they're supposed to have 5 doors from the outset. But as you say each to their own - I can't have hated the look of 5...

I had an 89 when it was two years old, within months of my purchasing it, it was already showing signs of rusting and bubbling quite badly, the dealers simply said "tough" it was out of warranty. I never much liked it anyway! I had it on two wheels several times - dangerous pile of crap IMHO. My...

    SO….. why do you…??

Which reaffirms my opinion of the p38 - it's a finicky but basically robust vehicle - I believe the later Range Rovers just kept the finicky attribute.
