    Bolts!!

Land Rover prices are stupid! My air con tensioner wheel had a noisey bearing, but you are supposed to by the complete unit! 260 euro plus tax @16%!! Yeh right I don't think so, popped along to a local bearing supplier 26 euros all in, swapped the bearing and a now for a quiet drive along the...

    Wheel Nuts!

Surely the garage had a 27mm socket and bar? Or am I missing something here? I would understad a garage servicing someone car and pointing out the brace was missing, or ringing up and saying the lock nut adaptor missing, but not a brace! I do not use copper grease on the studs but do use a...

    problem with brakes

Most ABS problems can be traced to wheel slip sensors, the sensor attract iron filings from discs/pads ect, and the sensor cannot 'see' the serations in the ABS ring. Very very common problem, often shows as air gap issue. If it come back try removing and cleaning the sensor/ABS ring...

    Clutch problem?

Check the oil levels of the gear/transfer boxes as well. Another point is the pilot bearing can make some strange noises until it changes position with the primary shaft on the gearbox. regards Dave

    TD5 Auto gearbox temperature sensor

Hi, I am in Spain and often come across this problem, consider changing the oil in the gearbox. Then drive for a couple of hunderd kms and then change it again. The problem shows up on hot days/log hills, as you cannot drain the torque converter you will need to rely on changing the fluid a...

I was driving along a dry river bed and......

Hi all, just a note to remind you to always carry your recovery gear. Picture the scene: My spanish other half and her family are having a siesta on Sunday afternoon, I still cannot get into sleeping halfway through the day (essex boy) so I decided to kill a couple of hours in the Disco...

    oil leaks

Unless you are serious about keeping the garage floor clean then be prepared to keep on top of the leak issues or just give in and get used to it.:D regards Dave

    300 TDI Snapped Cam Belt

re the bent valves I have done about 10 or 12 of these engines with snapped belts and only 1 had a valve ( I cannot remember if it was no 3 charlesy but your not often wrong) but it can and does happen on occasions. regards Dave

    Plastic door sills....

I was lucky and there was no rot what so ever (warm climate) I fitted sliders/jackable sills and then used a strip of reinforced rubber which I glued to bridge the gap between body and slider, looks good and stops the crap getting in there. If anyone is interested I will grab a couple of pics...

    Disco 200Tdi Brake pedal creep

I am unsure about the UK models but the air con on my 200tdi needs a vacuum to change airflow direction, the slightest leak stops the system working however, my brake servo still works if I press the pedal once. If I repeat to quickly and the vacuum is leaking then the servo runs out of vacuum...

    300 TDI Snapped Cam Belt

How did the water get in there in the first place if the plug was fitted? Shame a rocker was broke, if the engine is running rough it may be an idea to see if another rocker/rockers have hairline cracks that are only opening under pressure when operating the valve. The valves rarely bend as...

    pig sick of abs

Wheel bearings if loose can allow the disc to knock the pads back into the caliper giving a lot of travel/soft pedal so check that. Try clamping off rubber hoses in turn to see if the brake pedal improves. Also master cylinders tend to wear in one spot over many years and as soon as you...

    Blinding light

I have seen headlamp bulbs put in the wrong way and screwed the beam pattern. sidelights are 12v 5W headlights as already mentioned 55w/60w. Also check the headlights are fixed to the car ok, I know sounds daft but it happens, the adjuster balls/housings can wear. Disco's tend to adopt a...

    MOT and emissions

Hydrocarbon is the unburnt fuel in your exhaust sample, at 13 ppm it is fine. If the HC goes up high it could be caused by many things, a faulty spark plug lead on a petrol engine for example will give a hihg reading, or with a diesel a dirty/sticking injector. As the engine wears and gets...

    wheel bearings

Have a good look at the grease inside the hub, if it is almost (or is) oil then as mentioned you need to replace the halfshaft seal, not a ten minute job. regards Dave

Help . Gears select, but wont engage,

Was there any bang when you lost the gears? Is it possible you have torn the clutch up? As mentioned when trying to engage lo/hi gears somtimes you need to lift the clutch pedal enough to allow the cogs to rotate slightly and line up, if the clutch has gone then nothing will be rotating in the...

    Valve Timing Gear Threaded Bolts

If you are saying they ripped out then retapping will not sustain torque for long. You should go to an engineering supplier and get a set of helicoils and fitting tap/tool. You retap the hole with the new tap and wind in a helicoil, break of the tang and your done! regards Dave
