    Gearbox fault codes

Hi, no I don't have the codes, thats what I want to find out to do. Whether you can read the transmission ecu without any specialist equipment. Also eightinavee it's got a brand new battery on it. The other gearbox fault I found in the short period I've drove the vehicle. Is when Iput it on my...

    Gearbox fault codes

Hi, I know this has probably been asked a thousand times, but I've done a search and it's not coming up with any threads. My p38 4.0 has got gearbox faults apparently, according to the dashboard anyway. Does anyone know a way to read the faults codes or wipe them without going to get raped by a...

newbie! P38 cutting out when warm

Looking at it actually, it looks like it is where someone has tried to butcher a sensor in it, I guess for the gas. The sensor is now opposite the hole and on the different side of the air flow sensor. If you know what I mean. I had it running the other week and it was flaming out the inlet...

newbie! P38 cutting out when warm

Just bought a mas off ebay, might bung the old one up and try it tomorrow. Im hoping I've just got crap petrol in there, as it's been stood for 3 years and I havent put any petrol in it yet. Going to have to put some in this weekend. Had a Range Rover sport come in for a service today, and it's...

newbie! P38 cutting out when warm

I've just took my mass air flow sensor off and there is a little hole worn/blown into it. I still havent fixed mine. Mine has got a switch on the dash to switch it from petrol to gas, but don't know if it swaps over automatically when warm or not, guess not. My mate reckons the valve seats might...

finally got it running but new problem!!

Hi mate, Im in Walsall West Midlands. My mates got a snap on scanner, but just want to get it running better to start with. Its been off the road for 3 years so hopefully some of the faults are there through lack of use? The main problem is the temp gauge go up and down like a rev counter, and...

finally got it running but new problem!!

Hi, already put a new temp sensor in it, might be the wrong one coz there was a choice of two, a brown plug and a black plug. Mine has the black plug on the sensor but brown plug on the car. Gone to move it over tonight and the bloody thing is playing up again. Started up mint, reversed it down...

finally got it running but new problem!!

Hi guys, finally got my p38 4.0v8 running for longer than 10 minutes now. I changed the crank sensor and now is running nice, apart from, the temp gauge is having hissy fits. It will climb slow until it gets out the blue then will go up like a minute hand on a watch. But only every now and...

    p38 crank sensor

It's got the metal point that comes out the sensor, really thin about half inch long, looks a bit like a needle. This goes into the round plastic sensor, like the cover for the metal piece of the sensor. It's the plastic piece that has the slight groove in it.

    p38 crank sensor

Hi guys, managed to find it thanks to you lot. Took it out, looks like its already been replaced with an after market one, have noticed the plastic has got a groove in it just off the target? Is it supposed to have one, or is this whats causing my running problem?

    p38 crank sensor

Hi guys, dumb quesion, but where on my RangeRover am I going to find the crank sensor? It's a 4.0 v8. Is it going to be on top of the gear box underneath the coil packs? Or half way down the gearbox? I have had a quick gander, but it's a bit tight down the back of the bulk head. Thanks for your...

Thanks Gav and 1992 lse, the plan is to check most of the plugs as Im going about taking the inlet off. Haven't got round to changing the spark plugs yet. Are Champion ones compatible?

newbie! P38 cutting out when warm

Would a sensor make the engine sound like the engine was half ceased? Like the old fords used to do? Saying that we have started stipping to get to the inlet manifold, and the plugs on the injectors are all rusted up inside. Nah dont think its the head gaskets, Ive been told if it was the head...
