    Wheels!!!

The for sale section is restricted so that you must have 50+ posts to post in there. The result is that we often get people spamming the forum with not-so-subtle attempts circumvent that rule to sell their crap. So: 1. Don't ask about wheel sizes. 2. Don't try to sell anything before you...

    Wheels!!!

We have so many 1 post wonders turning up, not bothering with the search function, and asking various versions of "What are the biggest wheels/tyres I can fit on x vehicle?" that it's become a running joke on the forum. You've been quite fortunate in that the angry mob have not turned up just...

    Wheels!!!

The first question I would be asking is if the tyres will fit the wheels. "15" Defender wheels" is a little vague... Precisely what wheels? Do you know the width? You'll notice that I'm avoiding the question of "will these wheels fit my Defender"... But I'm sure you'll soon realise why that...

I have an engine hoist that you can borrow if you still need one? Looks like you're sorted, though?

Well, 1/4 of a mile according to most policies, but too close to home might raise suspicion. Let's say she sets off to visit you in the morning, stops at the shop on the way and comes out to find that the vehicle won't move. A supermarket, or other safe place 3 miles or so from home? I'm...

You'll need to read the terms and conditions but I'm sure a couple of days will be fine. A lot of people join up before a long journey, so I'm sure they are used to breakdowns soon after people have joined. The biggest challenge is going to be getting the vehicle far enough away from home to...

No problem. Green Flag is the cheapest I have found so far. £55 for national recovery.

Note that she actually wants national recovery, not onward travel. Onward travel is for travel without your vehicle, so hire car etc, whereas national recovery is for a tow to anywhere in the UK.

RAC say that they will only tow up to 10 miles from home, but nationwide recovery (optional extra) to a single address (not necessarily home) if you are more that 1/4 of a mile from home. So I think she will need something like an RAC policy with the Nationwide Recovery option, and will need to...

Might just be worth checking that they do onward travel from home. Usually onward travel requires you to be away from home, otherwise you need home start, which would then be a tow to the nearest garage.

Of course, you have a workshop, lucky bugger! In that case, AA membership is likely to be the cheapest option.... Did I mention that this would definitely not be something that I would encourage? ;)

Four hours to you, plus setup, chatting, drinking tea, so let's assume a full day's work, followed by a four hour drive home sounds like a rough day of travelling for Sarah? I'm sure it's doable, but I certainly wouldn't fancy doing it in one day, free labour or not. If you were a real...

If it were me, and time was not an issue, I would remove the gearbox myself (or local independent, depending on skills, tools and willingness to get dirty) and send it off for inspection/repair rather than full overhaul/rebuild. Same with the transfer box, if there is definitely anything...

    Around £1000 +VAT and collection/delivery for both G & T box. I wouldn't expect much change from £1500.
