What have you done to your Landie today.

Today was a reasonably productive day! Measured preload and fitted shims on the V8, preload is now 0.040", smack bang between the required 0.020" -> 0.060". Fitted new vacuum hose from servo to inlet manifold (still waiting on that). Fitted new fuel pump into tank and sorted out some fuel...

While I wait for payday to collect the inlet manifold from the engineers... Lots of sanding... Etch primer...

Left hand main bearing decided it wanted to not part with the shaft. Had to take it to friendly engineering place to remove it. I'm now waiting on a replacement right hand main bearing. The parts supplier I used supplied a very noisy bearing (BRAND NEW!) and it didn't have the groove for the...

    200tdi Range Rover

Driving around a RRC and having the noise of a 200TDi under the bonnet is a strange experience. Agricultural is one way of putting it!!! LT77, watch out for that 1st->2nd gear change, worn boxes will be clunky on this change IIRC.

    addicted to v8's

The 9.75:1 CR engines were in SD1s. The RRC high CR is 9.35:1, with low CR being 8.13:1. You can check your engine, itll be stamped with the engine number that's found where the oil dip stick enters the block. I just fail to see how fitting a modified flapper ECU and a jag air flow meter...

Turbo Charging a V8 advice needed

I agree - if after power yes, its easier and cheaper to throw in a 4.6 and do things with that. But if you're like me then for some strange reason I just like the 3.5 and am not concerned about all out power so am happy to do with what I can with a 3.5.

Turbo Charging a V8 advice needed

Because you can get 250bhp from a boosted 3.5. :D Why? because you can Why did you supercharge your 4.6? Because you could? ;)

Got the crank back today... If you hold the left hand main bearing in you hand and shake it then it sounds like a babys rattle! No wonder the bike was vibrating! Parts ordered for the rebuild. Gotta get cleaning everything before that arrives and before it can go back together. My...

Thanks! It wasn't clean for very long. In fact I need to give it a once over with the pressure washer. Went out with a friend in his *gasp* Jeep Wrangler (Nice 4.0L straight six though!!! :D) and hasn't been washed since. :o Although... its all fun and games until you have to do this: On...

    3.9 v8 engine and lt77

Only the 3.5L V8s were fitted with Flapper EFI from the factory. ;) You do get some 3.5Ls fitted with hotwire though so watch out! :)

    3.9 v8 engine and lt77

Being a 3.9 it would be hotwire. Who the hell would fit flapper injection to a 3.9!!!
  20. marccleave

whats the better engine, 3.9 v belt engine or 4.0 grms??

In that case a 4.0 with top hat liners sounds like the answer. Get a 4.0, rebuild it with top hat liners (or find one thats already been done!) and drop it in with megasquirt. Is that not an option for you?
