Service on ird done and still no change, runs a dream but after switching off for 20min or more and then restarting and driving still getting the clicking noise and black smoke out the exhaust and slightly down on power, can’t suss this one out :(
You will find that one of your sensors has packed in,like the above says when you put your ear next to one at a time you will hear it clicking, the one that doesn’t click will need replacing then the system will work properly again
Thanks nodge I’ll do a service on the ird Tomorrow weather permitting as off work, hasn’t been any wind up on transmission thanks to this forum as did regular tests on vcu and did a self recon on vcu due to this site and people giving and sharing there info,a credit to everyone
Hi nodge unfortunately can not trace where the sounds coming from or from what component as only happens when driving and accelerating,I can say tho that it sounds like it’s coming from the front right hand side of the engine bay but am aware that sometimes sound can travel
Thanks for reply madmustang the coolant is all good and cooling fine, this clicking comes in at about 2000 rpm when accelerating and progresses with revs and kicks black smoke out With no apparent loss of power, but what I have noticed is when this does happen if I drive really steady for a few...

Alright fellas just an update on this problem and ended up bypassing and wiring both fans via relays and a switch, makes life easier when towing in the occasional hot weather we have
this happened to my parents freelander, did the usual thinking it was the steering lock,in the end they called out the AA,they sprayed wd40 into the key hole and it worked, said the barrel had seized slightly due to dampness and it worked a treat
