    7 year itch

After 7 blissful years of P38 ownership, I cheated on the old girl today and have gone and bought a disco 3. The P38 will soon be going to a new home and I hope the new owner will enjoy it as much as we have. It only let me down once in 65k miles and has been a superb vehicle. We even used it...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Today, (well yesterday actually), our RR took us to flamingo land, Yorkshire. Whilst in the car park I noticed a nice example p38' complete with 'landyzone' sticker. We have spent a week on holiday in yorkshire and amazed to see so many p38's going about. Our p38 performed brilliantly as usual...

Radiator, is the diesel one different to petrol??

i thought there seemed to be some suggestion that some aftermarket rads didn't have this baffle - hence the marble test. i was just wondering if anyone knew whether the rad available from Island (made by nissens) had such a baffle?

Radiator, is the diesel one different to petrol??

i fitted an island 4x4 radiator yesterday. it has inlet & outlet for oil cooler pipes but on my auto DHSE its not required. i just left them blanked. not sure whether its baffled?? car seems to run nice and cool though - just been out for a test run

    viscous fan removal - 2001 -P38 DHSE

yes, agreed. i'm afraid i'm too much of a bodger to have such high quality spanners. i also wasn't quite sure whether i needed a 32mm or a 36mm. the laser cheepo one was double ended. all back together again now and running fine. when resetting the windows (battery had been disconnected to...

    viscous fan removal - 2001 -P38 DHSE

i'm having real trouble with the nut/bolt that holds the viscous fan to the water pump. i've read every post i can find but still not entirely sure that i'm hitting the spanner the right way?? i've got a viscous fan spanner on it and hit it with a hammer - left to right (when looking at the...

    trading down to a disco?

same gubbins as early sports!! sounds bad. i haven't heard good reports about the sport model. main reason for change is i need extra seats and disco 3 appears to be the best 7 seater around? we've been lucky with the reliability on the p38 but it is beginning to feel a bit tired ps = disco...

    trading down to a disco?

hello folks, i'm thinking of trading down from a p38 DHSE to a disco 3. i've had a disco for a test drive and it seems quite a nice drive. i use the p38 mostly on road and the disco 3 seems equally capable. it also has 7 proper seats. anyone think this is a good move - or complete lunacy? my p38...

    Starting / Glow Plug Problem

    central locking

my 2001 p38 was continually 'bouncing' the locks. i lived with it for a few years and it seemed to get worse. finally got round to changing the lock unit in the drivers door. no problems since then

    p38 drivers door lock wiring

update.....i've installed the new lock mechanism using bullet connectors and amalgamating tape. the locks have bounced once over the last few days and twice the information system made that triple bleep sound - with no warning message appearing in the dash. on the plus side, the tailgate lock...

    p38 drivers door lock wiring

thanks everybody. i think its bullet connectors and amalgamating tape solution for me. cheers for all the advice. it appears there is 'more than one way to skin a cat'. excellent point that being a p38, i will doubtless have to investigate again some time

    p38 drivers door lock wiring

how do you change the connectors? they look like they're sealed items. please excuse my ignorance...but what is 'adhesive lined hs' ??

    p38 drivers door lock wiring

folks, i've had the dodgy 'bouncing' central locking for several years and the motor in the drivers door lock has been making strange noises. so i decided to replace the lock mechanism. found a good deal on a new one and have fitted it to the car. only then did i realise the wiring connectors...
