The TD5 gearboxes (R380) are notorious for being grindy, and generally noisier than say a car !! Mine started making 'noises' at about 50k, it's now clocked 97k and has NOT got any worse (or any better) I do now regulary change the oil, (every 15 - 20k) using the correct Texaco MTF94 oil

Not always, your compression rings could be fine (good power output) but yer oil control rings could be buggered, hence oil consumption high . . . Assuming no obvious 'bad' leaks, then it can only be burning it !!!

The TC works by using the ABS brake system and is fully automatic . . when a wheel starts to turn faster than the average rotation speed of the remaing wheels the system applies the brake to the faster wheel, which causes the drive to 'transfer' to the other wheels via the differential !! You...
