    Recomissioning rebuilt TD5 problem

Right, up and running. Checked whether the old seal on the CrankPositionSensor was still in the hole and that I had put the aftermarket one in on top. No hadnt been that much of a numpty. So got to thinking why didnt the old one have a seal? Put the old one back in without a seal and started...

    Recomissioning rebuilt TD5 problem

Sierrafery, just read your post on Crank Sensors on another thread and might have solved the problem. I bought a mid range aftermarket CKP not genuine oem. Only replaced it as I wasnt sure i had damaged the old one separating the bell housing as I had loosened the securing bolt but got ahead of...

    Defender TD5 turbo-intercooler hoses

Agew, as sierrafery suggests silicone hoses on the turbo are good. They are smoother inside and create less turbulence so a little bit more power squeezed out. Ive been on silicones for about five years and there is a difference. Yes its three parts needed.

    Recomissioning rebuilt TD5 problem

Sierrafery, just a thought. The Crank position sensor is quite a tight fit in the hole in the bell housing. I did think It looked a bit proud and I could see the top of the green sealing washer but I didnt want to give a sensitve sensor a tap with a plastic mallet. Might there be a chance i...

    Recomissioning rebuilt TD5 problem

gribbin me too. Think the rotor cap bolts are prone to it so tapped up and a larger bolt. But as this is a new AMC head dont really want to go down that route especially as I dont know if the reason it stripped was because of a bubble in the cast or a bit of weaker alloy. Local mech has said he...

    TD5 cracked head

Yeah thats an AMC head. AMC make a better head than landrover as they have sorted out the issues of cracking around the injector ports. Like I said watch you dont over torque the nuts as I stripped one bolt hole on my new head even though I used factory torque settings

    TD5 MPG

I get/got about 25mpg on mountain roads and about 35mpg on motorways as Ive changed the transfer box to 1:2 ratio. You loose a bit of performance in the countryside but get much better fuel economy on fast roads. Still ok towing and offroad as first two gears are still about the same

    TD5 cracked head

While youve got the head off flush all ofthe coking and **** out of the inlet plennum, should make quite a difference in better airflow as yours at 270k should be like mine at 330k full of gunk which took four flushes with degreasant

    TD5 cracked head

Just put an AMC on my lump. Generally they are excellent got lots of good feedback from others and mechanic says he has had no problems with them but if you are using one, torque the bolts into it less newtons than the service book says just in case. I torqued up my fuel pressure unit to the...

Thanks Sierrafery. Battery is good 110ah. Hadnt thought of the diesel interupting the crank signal. And hadnt considered bump starting... worth a thought

    Recomissioning rebuilt TD5 problem

Just to add the leak from the pressure regulator is quite bad, its not just a drip. On the positive side on a newly charged battery today it really did try to fire but still didnt run under its own power

    Recomissioning rebuilt TD5 problem

Hi guys. Just put my rebuilt TD5 engine back in the 110. Unfortunately one of the bolts on the fuel pressure regulator stripped the thread in the brand new AMC head. Torqued it up to the tight values and it popped. Other two bolts are ok and I can get a turn on That bolt but cant do it up tight...

    Recommissioning a TD5 engine.

Ok thats positive that they can run when leaking, but mine is a very big leak not just a sporadic drip. So pehaps purge isnt working Injectors are all in the right order as guy who did rebuild put them one for one from the old head to the new head. No dont have a nanocom, but positive side this...

    Leaky CAV injector pump

Yeah had thought of that and know where I might get one. This truck is the back up toy to play with in the garage and green lanes its just been called into service cos I needed to re-engineer the TD5 engine (which is done and waiting to go back onto my daily drive). guy who did the...

    Leaky CAV injector pump

Thanks flossie, Honest assessment appreciated. I think just replacing the part with one that is known to be working ok is viable as I am mid point in the rebuild of my TD5 engine and shouldnt get two jobs on the go at the same time. I can always get a recon some time later and this would get the...
