    Freelander 1 Diesel IRD removal

Thanks. Sounds the same as doing the 1.8 then with access a little worse. Got an air impact gun so hopefully that will take the strain out of taking out bolts. No pit or ramp though so its going to be on axle stands

    Freelander 1 Diesel IRD removal

I am going to remove the broken IRD from my 2l diesel Freelander this weekend (if it doesn't rain). I have seen that you can whip them out without removing the sub-frame on a 1.8, but a TD4 needs the sub-frame removed. Do I need to remove the sub-frame to get the IRD out of my L-series. Any...

    Freelander 1 possible TD4 HGF?

done a sort of test on the oil cooler today. Pulled it off and blocked inlet then attached hose to the outlet and gave it mains pressure, also poured a couple of kettles of water over it to heat it up, left it for an hour and couldn't see any water coming out the oil inlet and outlet. Noticed...

    Freelander 1 possible TD4 HGF?

Could be oil cooler, looking for suggestions like that. It doesn't show any of the other features of HGF. will look at oil cooler tomorrow. Is there a way to test the oil cooler?

Was it HGF or something else?

    Freelander 1 possible TD4 HGF?

Started to strip the engine down and there seems to a lot of water in the air intake. Air filter is bone dry but pipes to and from the intercooler have water running out of them. EGR is blanked. Anyone know how the water could get into the air intake? could it be coolant? Is the turbo water...

    Freelander 1 possible TD4 HGF?

Noticed my coolant tank was empty yesterday, so topped it up and it used about 1 litre to go 50 miles, used it to go to work and back today and it used another 500ml for 30 miles. I have the usual mushroom coloured mush on the underside of the oil cap so the coolant is definitely getting into...

I haven't heard of the propshaft being a major problem for the L322. You may well be able to get a good serviceable shaft from a breakers

Freelander 1 Bump in the night costs ££ $$

could put it to your insurance company for repair. If they decide to write it off, tell them you want buy the car back as salvage. You get to keep the car and get a contribution from the insurance company to fix it. (nb don't send the original V5 or MOT to the insurance company if you want the...

    TD4 died and now won't restart :(

Could it be the cable/connector to the HP fuel pressure sensor. Had a similar problem and event after changing HP pump and testing wiring loom turned out to be the Cable/connector to HP fuel sensor. It is a known problem on TD4's

Freelander 1 L Series no drive

Good shout on the wheel up test, just being a bit lazy as most of the time the freelanders are used off road Doesn't seem to be any noises off the rear, but will probably use parts off my rolled Freelander once I have check out IRD and Gearbox. Hoping gearbox is fine as I don't have a spare one.

Freelander 1 L Series no drive

Tyres are all the same make, size, etc. I check the pressures once a week as well. 100% sure the VCU has caused the problem as even with a 6ft scaffolding pole you can't turn the rear wheel to do the VCU test

    Range Rover L322

all good advice from Saint V8. Also listen for and clonks or bangs and check the tyre wear. These are heavy vehicles and font and rear suspension will be well worn at this mileage. Any bangs or clonks and uneven tyre wear could be a sign of needing a suspension rebuild. Check the rear arches...

Freelander 1 L Series no drive

Thanks, was hoping not to have to do both gearbox and IRD. Better pull the IRD and gearbox off the thing then. One thing I did notice when I was shifting it was there is drive to the front wheels sometimes. If I push it forward or backwards it will drive about 5 or 6 feet then I get a bang from...

Freelander 1 L Series no drive

The GF was driving my l-series when there was a loud bang from underneath and it makes a loud banging noise from the front when driven. I checked the VCU and it is locked solid so I assumed the pinion on the output rear output of the IRD had stripped. So I have taken the front to rear drive...

    L322 Is 138k too much

Sounds like a reasonable deal, there are a fair few over 150k miles and some over 200k miles now. Gearbox in TDV8 is much stronger then TD6, although LR states change gearbox oil at 150k, most suggest a change at half that (75k miles) to keep it is good condition. Turbos have caused problems...
