Sounds like the gearbox oil needs topping up, if the oil level is low it will run like a badgers arse as you mentioned.

Maybe worth checking all the nuts & bolts are tight on the prop before you strip it down, then take it for a test drive, it may well just be a loose nut causing the vibration.

Have you checked there is enough oil in the box, it holds a good 9 litres. You have to move the gear selector through each gear from D TO 1 then back again slowly while topping up, i believe most of the oil is held in the torque converter while only a few litres are present in the sump, maybe...

How is your fuel pump? I would remove it and check both filters are clean, sounds like a fuel delivery issue.

Sometimes the high/low selector will pop out of gear without you noticing it, it looks engaged and feels engaged but isn't, hence your problem.

Its worth changing injector washers to rule that out, there is a step by step with pics on here somewhere, fairly easy job. Could be drawing in air or there is still air in the fuel gallery. Maybe try the priming sequence to bleed air out the system, you may find it will start a lot better after...

Check your high/ low selector is fully engaged, if you suspect xy switch on gearbox, give it a good spray with lubricant while someone operates the gear lever back and forward.

You say that you have changed the fuel pump? Does the multiplug on the fuel pump have a good connection? Is the pump quite loud when working? If it is it will be goosed! The symptoms sound like a knackered fuel pump, might be worth stripping it out again for inspection, check the pump filters...

Good news mate, it's quite common for the pump to get clogged up wi gunge, at least now you know the symptoms, don't be surprised if you have to clean the pump again, think its the additives in the diesel that cause it.

Are you sure the noise isn't the diesel running through the return hose to the fuel cooler? It's quite a noticeable trickle sound around the head and is normal.

Even though you can hear the fuel pump it may be knackered, it could be pumping fuel up to the engine but not at the required pressure, if the fuel pump is quite loud when priming I would change it.

Turns out it was water in the fuel, stripped the tank out,cleaned it out, replaced the filter,fresh diesel in then she fired up after a small squirt of easy start. Was running fine for a few weeks then died on me again! Fuel pump was fecked, new pump fitted now running sweet as a nut. :beer2:
