my mate actually suggested thrust bearing,is that a difficult/expensive fix then?

got ya mate,thats no problem,im up to that,i could even change diff if thats what turns out to be problem... going to and coming back from work today,i really took more notice of whats happening,and have found that the noise can appear in any gear while taking up drive...

drive flanges?does that mean wheels off,flanges off,wheels back on,drive it?sorry mate im a bit thick when it comes to this,ha ha ha,but again your help and input are invaluable. i did remove front prop but not flange earlier

you can here it on over run,and under load,dip clutch and it disappears,no noise when revs return to tickover.

nrgserv,youve more or less got it there mate,just read that last post thru again.

most of the time i can get away in 1st no noise then into 2nd and 3rd it comes on,but like i said earlier since i had props off and replaced them,it seems to happen more through all gears but not so much 3rd to 4th

apparently front axle oil was very metallic,so if i drop it again and check for contamination,therell certainly be wear in there somewhere yes! its hard to say but when i think about it i think it does go off a bit till i hit 5th then comes back again...

yeah it alters tone going up the gears mate,gets higher tone as revs go up. james the oils were changed 2 weeks ago,but if you reckon i should check them ill do that as soon as i can mate...

yes mate,sounds like its winding up on acceleration then winding down non deceleration,my mate says it sounds like a washing machine going in to a spin cycle,but a slightly lower tone if you know what i mean.

james, it only does it while driving,not stood still nrgserv,dont know what tension the belt was set at,but i would have thought a specialist would know what its supposed to be set at(hmmm).. sorry this is getting long winded and i appreciate all you help as i aint no expert...

that might actually work as you could still probably hear it above engine noise and cab noise even recorded from my phone or a palm cam as i dont have a regular tape recorder lol.. gonna try that at at earliest convenience,great idea mate DAZ

i hate to start confusing the issue with other issues,but it only started when t belt got changed,lol...

i was told to put 10k through mine after id blanked the egr,and yes it worked,loosened all the crud and turbo works better,good stuff actually...

since ive took the props off and replaced them,it seems to be getting worse,and its consistent with engine speed not road speed...

apart from what you"s have said about taking halfshafts out and drive members off,would it be a good idea to change the diff pinion outer bearing and transfer box output bearing,if not just to eliminate any more possibilities?

as i said before the oils have just been changed again,if that helps...

ok james should i be looking for metal filings,what will this prove mate?

ok guys,ive took the front prop off and driven the car and noise is still there,rules out front diff,took rear prop off driven it,noise still there,that rules out rear diff,so where do i go from here,transfer box out put bearing possible?or clutch release bearing even?.thanks again lads... all...

Abar for disco 1,very good condition,small amount of paint peeling,but ive repainted,might need a bit more,looking for £45 collected or £55 posted,spots not included... thanks for looking,located in newcastle... DAZ

oil and filter change,slapped waste oil all over chassis,cheaper than waxoil... DAZ
