Disco 2 DAB Radio using built-in aerial question

Well, I picked up a Pure Highway H260DBi for £85 as a refurb from Halfords :) It has an SMB aerial connector and as all of the 'splitter' adaptors I have found so far can only be used on passive aerals I'm going to go for one of these: they are cheap, work and don't look as ugly as (as well as...

Disco 2 DAB Radio using built-in aerial question

It's a Disco 2. I only upgraded it from steam power in the summer so no GPS fittings!!

Disco 2 DAB Radio using built-in aerial question

I'm seriously considering buying a Pure Highway H640DBi as I need (OK, want) Bluetooth streaming and DAB and have the opprtunity to pick up a unit for £89 rather than the regular £130 asking price. This would be replacing my current Alpine unit so fitting will be nice an easy, but I do have a...

Disco 2 Smoke on startup in the cold - Not head gasket!

I think I shall have to invest in one.

Disco 2 Smoke on startup in the cold - Not head gasket!

Typical. It was still as cold last night and started without an issue and no smoke. I did leave the ignition on a bit longer though before turning over. Not sure if this made a real difference though.

Disco 2 Smoke on startup in the cold - Not head gasket!

I always use the glow plugs where possible this morning was no different :(

Disco 2 Smoke on startup in the cold - Not head gasket!

I hope not, I had them done in April :(

Disco 2 Smoke on startup in the cold - Not head gasket!

All good suggestions. The glow had been swapped out earlier in the year. Is there a fuse or relay they use I could check though?

Disco 2 Smoke on startup in the cold - Not head gasket!

Given the amount of work I have had done over the past year this one has narked me a bit. This morning was the first nippy one in a while (10 degrees c) and my Disco 2 has been suffering from what seems to be a flaky start for a while now. The engine would turn over and seem to tick over with...

Disco 2 Can't select gear (4th) at speed

It had been crunchy for a while in 4th and I'd been double clutching to mitigate this. Once I couldn't get it in 4th when moving I got it into a local garge I know that specialises. It's only a two man shop, but they know what they are doing with no bullsh*t or rushwork due to backlog.

Disco 2 Can't select gear (4th) at speed

Given the age and milage (130k) I did expect some things to go wrong due to wear and tear/age but sometime I just have to wonder whether Land Rover designed the Disco 2 to self destruct after 13 years!

Disco 2 Can't select gear (4th) at speed

Well, it needs a new g\box, the synchromesh is shot :( Reconditioned one + clutch + lab just over £1200. I'd shop around or try Ashcrofts same day service but I'm off on holiday in it next Thursday and I'm not even sure it could have made it to Luton. The most annoying thing is the Disco is in...

Disco 2 Can't select gear (4th) at speed

Cheers, I was suspecting the bias plate as it seemed to affect other gears on the way home. Best get it sorted by the end of the week as I'm off to Kendal Callign in it next week!

Disco 2 Can't select gear (4th) at speed

I'll say one thing with Discovery's, they don't give you all of their problems at once. They let you fix one and then move onto the next! This morning I've suddenly found that I cannot select 4th on my Disco II (manual) when moving at speed such as 'A' roads and motorways or accelerating. The...

Blue smoke - Can't track it down!

My 2001 TD5 with 128k on the clock has been in the garage recently for quite a bit of work as during the winter it would be spewing out white and blue smoke when it was really cold. The colder it was the longer it would go on for until the engine warmed up. It was also drinking coolent like a...

What is this part called - A rain guide?

I've just noticed my Disco 2 is missing a 'bit'. This part is a small rubber flap that sits on the bottom right hand side of the wiper facia and channels water from the screen down the water channels on the side of the engine bay instead of allowing it to gather in the bay where your heated...

    Emergency top hose advice please!

Well, it's booked into a local garage tomorrow morning. I would do it myself if I had time, but I'm in mid-preperation for a big exhibition my company does each year. At least I get to change the coolent whilst it's in :)
