Help I need advice my Tdi 200i Defender needs a galv chassis

Got my chassis from Richards and very pleased with it. There is a guy next door to them that does the chassis swap if you don't fancy doing it yourself. Give Richards a call and they will point you in the right direction. Better still, do it yourself and save some cash, it's not a difficult...

RAG sounds familiar, not at Ciren are you? Nice 90 btw ;)

    bottle jack pads ?

You could buy a Disco 1 bottle jack with it already on. They are quite expensive but a Merc Sprinter bottle jack is the same size/capacity, has the type of saddle you are after and cheap on ebay. ;) Both go high enough to lift a Defender with oversized tyres.

anyone tried a turbo kit from ebay are they worth the bother?

Try Turbo Centre UK, they will do a recon hybrid turbo on an exchange basis for about £400. A lad I know fitted one to his and was very happy. Unlike a VGT you will still experience turbo lag at lower revs.

    Water pump

It's a pretty quick job, I did mine in about 30 mins this morning. How-to guide here for the P-gasket but it shows the water pump coming off in the process. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f73/300tdi-p-gasket-replacement-171383.html There are plenty of vids on You-tube also.

    300tdi Starter Motor Faulty

Cheers Kes, I was chatting to a mate last night and he also thought it may have gummed up with a combo of clutch dust and a leaking rear crank seal. I'll pull it out this week and have a ganders. What should it be lubed with (other than 10w40 that is currently dribbling onto it)

    300tdi Starter Motor Faulty

The starter motor on the 90 has been playing up and is slowly getting worse. Often when starting the engine, the starter motor spins but fails to engage with the flywheel and turn the engine over. It seems to happen more when the engine is warm but can happen at anytime. It usually works after a...

Boost Gauge Installed - Photos and Question

Going off topic a little, where did you source your hybrid turbo from and what kind of effect has it had before and after turning up boost/fuelling? My turbo is on it's way out and I'm considering a hybrid unit :D

    Reccomendation for poly bushes.

I wouldn't touch Britpart if I were you. I fitted a set of Flo-Flex bushes about 4 years ago because they were on offer at a show and they have held up well but some are starting to deteriorate now. Most people seem to recommend Polybush, Super Pro or genuine LR metalastic bushes. The latter...

    Bargain bottle jack

Mercedes Sprinter bottle jacks have the same. They are a 2.6 ton stage ram and go pretty high. They seem to sell for less on fleabay also.

    Buy in haste......

Search on fleabay for speaker spacers ;) A few of places you could mount them, albeit with a bit of plywood required possibly: - Under dash as per factory fitment - In the doors - Headlining - Rear bulkhead - Rear light covers - Board inside of hardtop panels and mount in them - Above...

Has anyone ever made their own front mats?

I used old conveyor belt matting and that works well, Mk2 approach will be with stable matting and hopefully cut a bit better

wax oil/ schultz stonechip or nothing at all.

I went a bit OTT but painted the chassis with T-wash, primer, chassis black and then the Waxoyl/Hammerite stuff. We have enough problems with the local tealeaves as it is, I don't want them to know there is a galv chassis hiding underneath. ;)

make my own brake lines advice & hints pls

I bought a Sykes Pickavant Flaremaster a few years ago, it was expensive but is bloody good. All the tools to cut, bend and tidy the pipe are included in the kit and it can easily be used under the vehicle. It also came with the formers to do the larger 6mm clutch pipe.

    Trailer - challenge truck build

I was thinking that the top of the radius arm may hit the underside of the bulkhead outrigger on full bump travel. Can't remember how much clearance there is as standard but it would be easy enough to modify the outrigger if required. :) Either way it would definitely be worth a shot, please...

Hood for 90 for sale or swap

I don't have a hood to swap (unless you want an old ex-mod MOD green coloured one with a couple of holes and no side windows) but how much would you like for your current hood and has it ever been used? Cheers, Harry

    Trailer - challenge truck build

You may have to modify your bulkhead outriggers and your bumpstops would need relocating but I can't see why it can't be done. The only problem I can see (with no knowledge of suspension geometry) is that you are more likely to damage the propshaft because it will be lower than the radius arms.

    Timing belt,

This is a good guide to any 300tdi engine work http://www.landroverweb.com/Pdf-files/300Tdi_Overhaul_Manual-Land-Rover.pdf If you dont have access to a printer etc then you can use a piece of cardboard and draw the shape of the timing chest, then push the bolts through the drawing in the...
