the problem i have found is wear on the shaft. once there is a groove in it no amount of new seals will work. although a bit of brake fluid in the res will help as it expands the seals slightly. not recommended long term though!

i had a similar problem when replacing a pump as it came with nothing on the shaft. but luckily there was a keyway on the flange you talk about, although not used it left a mark on the shaft so i was able to line the old flange up to the new pump using that! may have been a bit of luck though...

no think thats td5 discos. td5 defenders have sealed bearings as opposed to older tapered ones but dont think you have to get a whole hub.

there is a way of doing it by making some sort of tool. not done it myself but a mate has a few times with good results. belt off is not a major job. easier on a 300 than a 200 no water pump to worry about.

yeah the one with 3 wires is just a newer version. they wire up the same way round but miss out the middle pin.

that is where the banjo for the fuel inlet is have you checked that one? maybe it is coming from the shaft with the throttle lever on it. this goes down into the pump through a seal.

have you checked for power getting to the cap? if you search online you might find a procedure for testing everything in a sequence and eliminate as you go.

on the coil you will need an ignition feed to + obviously. the two connectors on the amplifier attatched to the dizzy are coil + and -. if i remember correctly the one to go to the + is the one closest to the front of the engine. not 100% sure its too late to go and look at one of mine!
