How to change a 200tdi Discovery cambelt..?

the procedure is the same for disco and defender and the timing marks are all the same just one less pulley to worry about. trust me it really is a simple job. if you have seen it all together, which obviously you have then you know exactly how it goes. just pin the pump at tdc and the cam and...

How to change a 200tdi Discovery cambelt..?

seem to remember torque for the belt is 12ftlb on a new one and 14ftlb for a used one with an old bendy torque wrench. Dont go by my figures though as i'm half asleep and been a while since i did one!!

Does anyone know what this engine is?

yeah just had a browse on google my guess was spot on! filter and odd looking manifolds give it away.

    Defender 110 TD5 upgrades

Actually the td5 is land rovers own engine designed and built by themselves. its loosely based on the rover o series engine which of course was also the basis for the Prima engine designed by rover and perkins. It was called Storm and there were originally going to be 3. a 4cyl, 5cyl and a 6cyl...

    Recovery Points?

some do allow fitment and some dont. thats why most steering guards now have some sort of recovery point on them. Personally i do without a guard and use the jate rings a i'm not a lover of welded recovery points. some of the welding i've seen looks like its been done by a 90 year old blind...

    what do you think

in that case you could get an RTC5680 which is a 65amp for air con 200tdi, TD and N/A. I would imagine it would be the same fitting as the alternator number is the same being A127 only with a higher amperage rating. Your answer is above! the 65A A127 will be the one you want but will just have...

    Series II alternator or dynamo?

dont know the changeover but my old 67/68 IIA was originally a dynamo which had been converted previously. It was petrol but doubt that makes a difference.

    Recovery Points?

dont rely on the factory rings you find on the rear and sometimes on the front. I have seen these fail due to massive force from being stuck in deep mud. use forged jate rings and rated/tested shackles with a proper recovery rope and you will be safe. Its not worth scrimping on recovery kit!

    what do you think

just going by paddocks part numbers mate i tend to do a lot of cross referencing on there. that sounds right then should be 45amp.
  10. Tig9619

    what do you think

Paddocks list non air con 200 defender as stc229 same as 2.5td and na. £58.63 plus vat. if yours has spade terminals this is correct. if it has studs with nuts then its a disco alternator. Nice to see a defender 200 for a change. hard to find for a conversion. Yes and i would agree just...

Cambelt...not much progress but getting there.

i got a feeling that sud is meant to be there as i remember seeing this on quite a few 200 engines including 3 of mine!

    what do you think

have you seen its definately got a 200tdi fitted in it as being 1989 G it will be a 2.5TD. Looks good otherwise. I got my 1987 csw with factory 300 engine and box for 2500 which i thought was a bargain. no rust anywhere apart from one bulkhead corner.

    Cam Change Woes

unfortunately it was a seller on ebay selling new old stock items. no mention of what type of lifters but did check google and found a couple of companies selling them as hydraulic cams so thought no more of it and bought it. no mention in the instructions or on the spec sheet that came with it...

    Cam Change Woes

well just spoke to crane again and they said it will run ok with hydraulic lifters and theres no reason why it shouldnt run as normal, so i am going to investigate further ie take cover back off and check cam timing etc!! It should run so i'll make it run with what i've got!

    Cam Change Woes

i think i'll give up on this one and stuff the old one back in at least it ran properly! just havnt got the time and money to mess anymore. just want to get a couple of good races in when i can afford the entry.

    Cam Change Woes

well i emailed Crane and they confirmed it to be a mechanical cam so either modify my lifters to make them solid and make some adjustable pushrods perhaps. wonder if could thread a pushrod or are they hardened. i was told that adjustable rockers form some old volvo will work but not sure which...

Leaky intercooler - Leave it..or Fix it...??

    Cam Change Woes

well had it running through a standard 1.4 for 6 months and its still good. it hasnt got masses of torque which is what seems to kill landrover transmission normally. we'll see what happens when its back in, which at this rate will be sooner than i thought!
